Student spotlight -- Payton Roney is completing the requirements for a Master of Business Administration this week. Payton is from Laurel and began her career at Sanderson Farms in 2018. She was recently promoted to Corporate Recruiter in September. Payton says, "I attribute my promotion to my academic experience and professional development through the MBA program at WCU. I chose this program because my brother attended nursing school at WCU, and he loved and still values his experience with his teachers and how they prepared him and his classmates for the professional world. I knew I wanted the same quality of education in pursuing my MBA, so it was an easy choice to make and I have no regrets in choosing WCU’s program. I have benefited from this program through the challenging learning experiences that allows each student to apply what we learn in the classroom to our professional lives and vise versa. Moreover, my interactions with professors and fellow students provided a more unique and personal learning experience that I know I would not have been able to have anywhere else. I am thankful for my time in the program and will cherish it forever!"
Congratulations, Payton!

Applying what you learn - “I am very excited to expose our students to the vast opportunities that exist for pharmacists. The Experiential Department is committed to ensuring that we are graduating pharmacists that not only know what's in the books, but who can also actually apply what they've learned in a real healthcare setting. The enthusiasm and commitment from our local pharmacies and hospitals has been encouraging thus far.”

Recent WCU School of Business graduates and current Community Bank employees, spoke via Webex to Dr. Mike Madaris’s BUS 448 class Wednesday, October 14th. Pictured, from left, are Scott Molaison, Clayton Rush, and Regan Walters. Clayton and Regan graduated in 2018, and Scott graduated in 2019.

Clayton is an Assistant Vice President and Loan Officer, and Regan is a Credit Analyst. Scott is in the Management Training program, and he will become a Loan Officer upon completion of the program. Since BUS 448 is Management of Financial Institutions, the industry insight provided by these young professionals was incredibly helpful.

Community Bank has hired four recent School of Business graduates (one of whom, Aaron McKenzie, is now a Retail Banker for Trustmark Bank in Columbia). In addition, one of the current students in the BUS 448 class, Jack Scafide, currently works for Community Bank as a part time teller.

It is always great to see our graduates succeed and love what they’re doing as they do. A big Thank You to Clayton, Regan, and Scott for taking the time out of their busy workday to spend time with current William Carey Business students.

Student Spotlight -- Sabrina Goetzen is a Management/Marketing student from Germany. She is also a member of the WCU Ladies Tennis Team. She has attended WCU since 2017 and has a nursing license in Germany.

In Spring 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic began, Sabrina was contacted by a hospital in Germany urging her to come back home to help during the pandemic. After arriving in Germany, she tested positive for the virus without any symptoms. After her quarantine period of two weeks, she was assigned to the Emergency Room working full-time including weekends and night shifts. She was able to take care of Covid-19 patients. Sabrina says, "It was a long exhausting summer with plenty of responsibility, but I was once more convinced that I made the right choices in my life. Now I enjoy being 'only' a student at William Carey University again, but soon I will go back to Germany for the Winter break to work again in my hospital."

⁉️Who has heard, “I don’t even know what a PT does,” “I didn’t know PTs did that,” or “wait, you’re a doctor?”⁉️

The sad reality is that so many of the people we could potentially help don’t know what our education entails, the breadth and depth of our skills, or what our role is on the healthcare team.

We need to teach them if we want to move forward as a profession!

🗣Your challenge today is to tune up your elevator speech! In 30 seconds or less, explain who you are, what you do, and how you can help!🗣
