Psychology Professor, Lisa Maeng’s proposal “Healing the Gut–Brain Axis: Probiotic Rescue of Early Life Stress Effects on Fear and Anxiety," has been recommended by the Healey Grant Review Committee and approved for funding in the amount of $10,000! Congratulations, Lisa!

Congratulations to Sarah Ribeiro, who was awarded first place in the David Orrick Undergraduate Student Paper Competition at the 2026 annual meeting of the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS), a regional association affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS).

Sarah completed an Honors Major in Criminology & Criminal Justice under the supervision of Professor Christopher Contreras. Her capstone project, Public Support for Deportation: The Role of Crimmigration Attitudes and Latino Threat Perceptions, reflects the strong research and analytical skills that earned recognition from the NEACJS awards committee.

Sarah graduated summa cm laude from UMass Boston in May 2026, earning minors in Philosophy and Psychology in addition to her Criminology & Criminal Justice major.

The Edward J. Collins, Jr. Center for Public Management is hosting a virtual panel on careers in local government for any interested UMB students this coming Monday, May 11th, at noon. The information is included in the attached flyer, and the registration link is: bit.ly/localgovtcareers
The panelists are practitioners who will each address two questions: a) Why consider a career in local government, and b) How do you get into a career in local government? They will keep the floor open for general questions and discussion.
