On August 31, psychology and law met in a necessary dialogue. 💬

I had the honor of presenting the lecture “Psychology of Conflict: Emotions, Communication, and the Limits of Building Consensus” to lawyers from the Taguatinga Subsection (OAB/DF), mediated by attorney Carolina Lazzarotto.

We reflected on six paths: listening and welcoming others; understanding resistance and what remains unsaid; looking at vulnerability, trauma, and emotional regulation; redefining success, since resolving does not necessarily mean agreeing; recognizing our power; and caring for the boundaries and inner conflicts of mediators.

Before building consensus, we must understand what drives each person — and what drives us.

I thank OAB/DF and the Taguatinga Subsection for the invitation and trust. May we continue showing that mental health is also a tool for justice. 🤍

Have you ever reflected on the role emotions play in your conflicts?

Those who support someone also need support themselves. If you’re at the center of a waiver, hardship, or cancellation of removal case, your health needs to be in order — because how can you prove you’re essential to someone if you don’t treat yourself as a priority?

It’s curious how we invest in procedures and body care, but hesitate when the subject is mental health. Caring for your mind isn’t a luxury — it’s what keeps you strong enough to keep caring for those who depend on you.🍀

When someone we love gets sick, being present goes far beyond translating words. It’s standing by their side at appointments, asking the questions that matter, remembering the medication at the right time, cooking, taking care of the house, holding their arm during a walk. It’s refusing to let the health of someone we love deteriorate even further — even when their body can no longer handle standing.

You have become that person’s physical, mental, and emotional balance. And maybe you call all of this love. But for immigration, it has another name: evidence. What you do for the people you love may be exactly what keeps your family together. 💛

Three essential points to strengthen a hardship, waiver, or cancellation of removal case.
✔️First: detail your routine with precision — who prepares the meals, handles the groceries, cares for the pets and the children, who contributes financially and how much.
✔️Second: map your support network. No one is an island — identify trusted people and how they could help.
✔️Third: take care of yourself. The process requires someone who is emotionally prepared.

You can be a good father, a good mother, even while carrying the weight of fear about your process. But it requires one thing: awareness. Because anxiety doesn’t just stay in your head — it tenses your body, steals your focus, and increases irritability. And that’s exactly where conflict at home begins, right when your children need you most.

Holding what you feel isn’t weakness — it’s the first step to being truly present. Taking care of yourself is taking care of them.

In this edition of the series You Ask, I Answer, the question is: how can you be a good parent while living in terror about your case?

How do you prove to immigration that someone is essential in your life? The answer lies in functionality. It’s not enough to say this person matters — you need to demonstrate, concretely, the impact they have on your daily life: emotional, psychological, financial, social, and spiritual.

The evaluation looks at your routine, the role this person plays, and what would happen if they weren’t around. It’s about turning that need into clear evidence for your case.

You don’t need to be in crisis for a psychological evaluation to make sense. In hardship, waiver, or cancellation of removal cases, the focus isn’t always on trauma — it’s on showing immigration how your protective factors could be affected.

What supports you today — your support network, your stability, your routine — could be deeply shaken if you had to move or lose the support of the person you’re accompanying. The answer isn’t only in pain; it’s also in showing what you stand to lose. Want to know more? Send me a DM or reach out on WhatsApp.

Let’s talk about how strong you are today — and how that could be affected. 🤍

Do you have siblings with legal status and fear you won’t be able to prove your place in your parents’ lives? That fear is more common than it seems. The psychological evaluation does not hide the existence of your siblings — it starts from your family’s truth.

What it does is demonstrate, in a concrete way, the functional impact of your absence: who would become overburdened, what would stop being cared for, where support could fail.

It’s not about competing with anyone — it’s about evidencing, with technical basis, the unique role you play in the routine and well-being of those who depend on you. ✔️

The guilt of not being present is one of the most silent pains of the immigration process. You’re there, held back by a delicate stage that requires you to stay, while your family’s life moves on — the birthdays, the milestones, the moments you can’t experience in person. And what’s left is a strange sense of grief for things that still exist, but that you can’t be part of.

That pain can turn into anxiety, sadness, even physical symptoms — because the body also feels what the mind tries to swallow. That’s why therapy is essential: a safe space to name that grief, without judgment, and learn to carry it without drowning in it.

In this edition of the series You Ask, I Answer, the question is: how do you deal with the guilt of not being present for important family moments because of your process?

Check out the answer in the Reel above! 🍀

An immigration denial is not just a “no” on a piece of paper — it is the loss of an entire life plan. That’s why the pain you feel is real: it is grief. You lost a dream, a hope, the money and the effort you invested. And feeling this is not weakness — it is a human response to a profound loss.

The first step is to acknowledge that feeling, without judging yourself. Working through this grief is what keeps it from turning into depression or another mental health condition. Because you need to be well — not to forget what happened, but to recalculate your route. 🤍

In this edition of the series You Ask, I Answer, the question is: why does an immigration denial cause a sense of grief?
