Another WKU Meteorology Program announcement: Congratulations to James Austin Boys as recipient of the National Weather Association Bob Glahn Scholarship in Statistical Meteorology. This in adddition to Ryan Difani as recipient of the NWA Dr. Roderick A. Scofield Scholarship! These types of competitive scholarships that the WKU Meteorology students continue to receive is a testament to the quality of both, our program and students. Happy Holidays.

Dr. Durkee will be giving his annual WKU Storm Chase recruitment talk Thursday November 21st in EST room 337 at 5:30 pm. If you have any interest in participating in this course, you are strongly encouraged to attend. There are only 8 spots available for the trip. Dr. Durkee will give a basic rundown on the course, eligibility, expectations, costs, routines, and of course show lots of storm documentation photos from previous years.

Dr. Durkee will also be discussing the Semester at Sea trip that takes place after the WKU Storm Chase in June.

NOAA’s National Weather Service more than doubles computing capacity

Great news!

This is the Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting (HWRF) model showing the Tropical Storm Flossie precipitation forecast for the Hawaiian Islands on July 29, 2013. HWRF is one of the sophisticated numerical computer models now being run on NOAA's new supercomputers.
