House of Hoops Barbershop Celebrates 3rd Anniversary by Launching the Charlotte Second Chance Challenge
Father’s Day Weekend community initiative calls on Charlotte to donate shoes, sports equipment, and two hours of mentorship to local youth.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — House of Hoops Barbershop is celebrating its third anniversary by giving back to the city that has supported it from the very beginning.
Rather than hosting a traditional anniversary celebration, House of Hoops Barbershop is inviting the entire Charlotte community to participate in the Third Annual Second Chance Initiative, highlighted by the launch of the Charlotte Second Chance Challenge—a citywide effort encouraging athletic shoe donations, sports equipment donations, and volunteer mentorship for children and families across the Charlotte area.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 20, during Father’s Day Weekend, at House of Hoops Barbershop, located at 2504 Little Rock Road in Charlotte.
While athletic shoes and sports equipment are a major part of the initiative, organizers say the mission extends far beyond donations.
“This isn’t just about giving away shoes,” said Brian Mack, owner of House of Hoops Barbershop and founder of the Second Chance Initiative. “It’s about giving young people confidence, opportunity, encouragement, and showing them that their community believes in them. Sometimes a new pair of shoes opens a door, but a caring mentor can help change a life.”
As part of the Charlotte Second Chance Challenge, House of Hoops Barbershop is inviting fathers, grandfathers, coaches, mentors, teachers, pastors, business leaders, and positive male role models to donate two hours of their time during Father’s Day Weekend to encourage children who may not have a consistent father figure or mentor in their lives.
Community members are encouraged to bring their own children and spend time investing in another young person through conversation, encouragement, basketball activities, and fellowship.
House of Hoops Barbershop is also issuing an open invitation to Charlotte’s basketball community—including Team United, Team Charlotte, Team CP3, Charlotte Aces, Charlotte Royals, Carolina Courts, independent AAU organizations, youth basketball trainers, recreation leagues, schools, churches, mentoring organizations, nonprofit partners, and local businesses—to become community partners by donating athletic shoes, sports equipment, or volunteers.
Families whose children need athletic shoes or sports equipment are encouraged to contact House of Hoops Barbershop to schedule a visit. Rather than simply distributing donations, organizers hope to personally welcome families, properly fit children with available shoes, and build relationships that continue well beyond the event.
Families whose children could benefit from spending time with a positive father figure, coach, or mentor are also encouraged to reach out. While the initiative cannot guarantee a mentor for every child, House of Hoops Barbershop hopes to connect families with caring community members and organizations whenever possible.
“Our vision is to remove barriers that keep children from participating in sports while creating opportunities for mentorship, encouragement, and lasting community relationships,” Mack said. “If one conversation changes one child’s future, then every donated pair of shoes and every volunteer hour will have been worth it.”
COMMUNITY CHALLENGE
House of Hoops Barbershop challenges every organization, business, church, school, athletic program, and family in Charlotte to answer the call by:
* Donating new or gently used athletic shoes
* Donating basketballs, sports equipment, and training gear
* Volunteering during the event
* Bringing a child to encourage another child
* Sharing the Charlotte Second Chance Challenge throughout the community
The goal is simple: to ensure that no child misses an opportunity because they lack the equipment, encouragement, or support they need to succeed.
