The University of York Catholic Students' Society (CaSSoc) CaSSoc is the Catholic Students' Society at the University of York. We aim to promote a sense of community within the university and everyone is welcome.

Please send us a message or email if you would like to be included in our weekly updates :) If you want to know more about what we do, check out our previous events! :) Looking at issues which affect us as students and as Christians, we aim to explore and expand our knowledge of faith and its relationship to what we do and who we are. We meet during term time on Thursdays at 7:30pm in More House,

the Catholic chaplaincy on Main Street in Heslington (see the map on our Worship on Campus page), where we normally have a range of talks, games, discussions and socials, with topics ranging from ethics to literature and from science to media.

This week, we’re keeping it nice and simple during the stressful exam period… it’s time for a trip to the pub! Join CaSSoc on Thursday 28th May as we engage in sophisticated conversation whilst consuming a sensible level of alcoholic beverages.

Mass will be at 18:30 at More House, followed by a meal and we shall head over to the Charles XII afterwards.

A little glimpse into our annual cassoc trip to Ampleforth Abbey 2026! We had a fabulous weekend, full of spiritual nourishment, fellowship, and fun. We thank the Benedictine monk’s who, in their kindness and hospitality, shared their wisdom and way of life with us during our short stay! We also thank all who were involved in organising the retreat and all who came along and made it the special weekend that it was! We look forward to our return next year 😉

Join us tomorrow on Thursday 21st May for a Games Night at More House. Whilst this might seem like a relaxed event, I’m sure it will become very competitive!

As usual there will be Mass at 18:30, followed by a meal, before we take each other on in a variety of board games at 19:30!

Join us at St. Aelred’s Community Centre on the 6th of June from 19:00-23:00 as we celebrate a successful year together with food, drink, music, and awards!

At 18:30 there will be a Mass followed by a meal
(This Mass fulfils your Ascension Day obligation)

The film will begin around 19:30

Things get competitive this Thursday as it’s time for CaSSoc Sports Day!

Join us at More House at 18:30 for a Service of the Word before getting into teams and competing at 19:00! (Note there will be NO MEAL this week)

Push yourself to the limits in the Egg and Spoon Race or defeat all competition in the Sack Race alongside many more events!

The night will end with Compline and a trip to V-Bar.

We had a highly insightful visit to the Shrine of Saint Margaret Clitherow. Thank you to Father Richard for giving a great talk on Saint Margaret, which emphasised her devotion and courage!

It was also a delight to pray Compline in the Shrine and reflect on all that we had learnt over a pint!

This Thursday 30th April, in anticipation of the Feast of The Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, CaSSoc will be visiting the shrine of Saint Margaret Clitherow.

We will begin at More House for the 18:30 Mass and meal, before walking to the shrine on the Shambles.

Father Richard will then give a talk on the shrine and Saint Margaret before we say Compline in the shrine.

The night will finish with a trip to Wetherspoons! We hope you can join us!
