Dr. Elyse Bolterstein and colleagues published their work on developing a course-based undergraduate research experience in their biology classes. Students got to characterize mutagen-sensitive alleles in the fruit fly, and Dr. Bolterstein and the team found that this experience benefited students in many ways! Congratulations!

Dr. Jorge Cantu published a teaching protocol for a lilly dissection. Now science teachers around the world can use this protocol and worksheet to meet science standards for middle school! Dr. Cantu did this work as part of the ChiSTEM Teaching Collaboration which partners NEIU faculty with CPS Middle and High School teachers.

What a beautiful day at Gensburg-Markham Prairie on Saturday! 🌿

We monitored rare plants, collected native seeds, and had a great time building community while caring for this special prairie. It was also wonderful to be joined by Ron Panzer, Gensburg-Markham Prairie's Naturalist for more than 30 years!

Everyone is welcome to join our weekly Saturday morning workdays. Come lend a hand and enjoy the prairie with us! 😁

On behalf of the Biology Department, we’d like to wish everyone a happy finals week!
