1 day until FDOC!
ASCE Concrete Canoe at UMD is a student-led competition team where participants gain the opportunity to design, create, and race a canoe made entirely of specially batched lightweight concrete. From calculating and modelling to balance speed and maneuverability, to performing concrete mix design to balance buoyancy and durability, everyone works as a team to present the best canoe and fulfill the RFP requirements presented by the judges. There is plenty of work to be done and much to learn!
Last year, we placed 3rd overall in the new combined Mid-Atlantic ASCE division and have a long history of placing in the top of the rankings, spanning more than a decade.
By joining Concrete Canoe, students can learn to batch, place, and cure concrete, gain experience in 3D design and CAD/CAM, apply structural analysis principles to real-life scenarios, gain skills in construction and aesthetic design, and learn leadership, teamwork, and time management skills, all while contributing to the creation of our final product-- a 20ft canoe made of concrete!
