Stand-Up Comedy
with Christie Buchele

This adjunct course offers students a chance to hone their skills writing and performing stand-up comedy. Under the guidance of a professional comedian, the course will cover joke structure, developing a performance persona, and physical techniques for successful delivery on stage. Students with any range of experience are welcome, whether you are coming with a set to polish or are new to comedy and looking for a place to start.

Topics in Theatre: Moving Together: The Power of Arts for Health and Wellbeing
with Suzanne Costello

An introduction to the interdisciplinary field of arts and health, students will engage in daily movement explorations and discussions as well as participate in on-site creative workshops with health professionals. The principles of this arts & health practice will be further explored as they relate to other disciplines such as education, economics, psychology, and the health sciences. As a final project, students will create a personal response to their investigations and experiences in an arts discipline of their choosing (dance/movement, theatre, music, voice, visual art, writing.) This in-depth experience will also include a final critical reflection synthesizing their research, theoretical studies, and creative work.

with Ron Jules

Explore the social and historical context of hip-hop dance, while learning, building, and improving skills like popping, locking, and breaking as you take on choreographed routine set to a soundtrack of classic and contemporary hip-hop music.

Theatre Think Tank and Play Reading Group
with Ryan Platt

Develop the dramaturgical skills and tools needed to read and analyze contemporary, modern, and classic plays. You’ll meet with playwrights and read and analyse plays and scripts with an eye towards crafting the theatre season at T&D.

STUDENTS, THIS IS IT.

Audition dates have dropped for our Spring Mainstage performance: William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, adapted by Professor Shannon R. Davis.

The year is 2012, it’s summer (with the Mayan calendar threatening to end in December), and the setting is Appalachian Athens, Ohio. There’s a huge music festival in the forest. It’s a moment defined by utopian longing, economic precarity, perhaps the end of the world (?), and the promise of escape through art (and drugs). This adaptation treats the chaos of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” not as harmless mischief, but as a reflection of systems that confuse desire, manipulate consent, and profit from disorientation.

As sunlight creeps across a quiet Cornerstone atrium, upstairs is a hive of activity as faculty and staff prepare to welcome students in just a few weeks.

With a new faculty member you’ll definitely want to meet, an exciting season of main stage shows, auditions and experimental performances, as well as thought-provoking courses and adjuncts, you’ll definitely want to stay tuned for what Theatre and Dance has in store for 2026-27.

While (most of) our students are enjoying their summer break, the work at T&D never stops. Luckily, the pause in courses and productions gives our tech experts a little extra bandwidth to work on special projects that make Cornerstone even better.

After dreaming about it for 14 years (and actively designing and planning for nearly 6 months), Tech Directors Paul Martin and Holly Wenger recently completed their new, improved storage loft.

Assisted by a crew of CC student shop workers who helped build throughout the last semester, the expanded loft storage space *elevates* (cough) the Scene Shop, giving everyone more room to move around, create, store, and stash...minus scaling the scary straight-up-and-down ladder to get supplies. 🪜👀

How does the Department of Theatre & Dance send off their retiring Chair? With a full-on fun dance party, of course!

Friends, faculty, fellow dancers, and family joined us last month to celebrate Professor Shawn Womack’s retirement from Colorado College as we looked back on her career - and forward at what’s still to come!

After a special performance by the Hillside Community Center Senior Dancers, everyone hit the dance floor for a celebratory shimmy to let loose and share the love.
