📚🔬🐷 SUMMER INTERNSHIP SPOTLIGHT WITH ☽kyleigh☽

One of our sisters, Kyleigh, has had the opportunity to study & research nutrition in nursery pigs through a Mizzou internship! Swipe to see what she has to say about the experience ➡️

“My main jobs were basic husbandry of the pigs (cleaning up after them, making sure they were healthy) and then the actual research aspect. For the research, we were looking at how to improve gut health in newly weaned production pigs through a different diet than they’re usually fed.“

“My part of that was looking at microscopic slides of different parts of the small intestine after 30 days of this diet, and count the number of a certain type of cell in the villi. I got to learn a lot about immune function in their digestive tract, and in turn ours because we have very similar structures to them. I also got to hang out with really cute pigs which was fun :)”

Kyleigh will be presenting her research in October at the CAFNR Research Symposium! 🎉

💌 “I attended the AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) symposium in Orlando, Florida! I had the opportunity to compete in a student competition and take workshops with AIFD accredited designers. In addition, I was able to watch main stage floral presentations, volunteer in the design room and make bouquets for Blooms over Orlando; a community outreach program.” Sadie Tummons

💌 “I was able to learn and practice wire manipulation techniques, play with visual balance in arrangements, and push the boundaries of floral design!” Sadie Tummons
