Congratulations to Welding Engineering alumnus Ernest Levert Sr. P. E., on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership from The Ohio State University College of Engineering.

Levert spent his career providing technical leadership for many of the nation's most critical aerospace and defense programs. He was also the first African American elected president of the American Welding Society and the International Institute of Welding Board of Directors.

Mahdi Hosseini of Northwestern Engineering visits us tomorrow to discuss how quantum physics scales from single particles to materials involving millions of quantum centers, macroscopic objects, and bright optical fields. His work on telecom-band quantum memories in erbium-doped solids has enabled efficient storage of quantum light for long-distance communication.

Dr. Dheepa Srinivasan joins us for a special seminar this week, during which she will discuss the evolution of new Aluminum, Nickel and Cobalt-based superalloys. Her research has shown that the use of hybrid solutions during metal additive manufacturing has the potential to yield lighter and more heat resistant components used in gas turbine applications.

We have the pleasure of welcoming Yolanda Hedberg of Western University (Canada) as our MSE colloquium speaker tomorrow. She will explain how released metals can affect food safety or trigger immune responses in the human body, catalyzing a dominant corrosion mechanism of biomedical devices. She is part of the materials scientists and engineers working to improve the performance of biomedical devices and food-contact materials.
