Cultural Heritage Certificate Program -
Housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, cultural heritage studies prepares students to understand, interpret, and promote a broad range of artifacts, texts, buildings, landscapes, and behaviors of cultures around the world, with an emphasis on our own unique region. In an interdisciplinary undergraduate certificate program in cultural heritag

e studies, students train in heritage interpretation and outreach, promoting community engagement in the process. They develop skills and values pertinent to public history, digital history, museum studies, cultural resource management, and heritage tourism. The certificate involves 12 to 13 credit hours, complementing a wide range of majors, including history; anthropology and geography; art history; and hospitality, resort, and tourism management.

Please join us Wednesday, April 19 for this great event! Free and open to the public!

Students, please also consider attending a dialogue with the director on Monday at 11am and 1pm. See the flyer here for more info!

CCU will host National Canadian Film Day next week, which will feature the film Beans by First Nations director, Tracey Deer (Mohawk). The film will then be shown at 1pm and 6pm on Wednesday, April 19 in the Coastal Theater in Lib Jackson Student Union and is free and open to all. ALSO, there will be a special event – a panel discussion with representatives from the SC Council of Chiefs before the 6pm showing. Please join us in the Allen Ballroom in the Singleton Building on Wednesday, April 19 beginning at 5pm (come earlier for a meet-n-greet! There will be snacks!), which is also open to everyone.

Here's the blurb about the film: “Beans takes place at the height of the 1990 Mohawk Resistance at Kanehsatà:ke (also known as the Oka Crisis), a 78 day standoff between indigenous land defenders, Quebec police, the RCMP, and the Canadian military over the proposed expansion of a golf course on to a Mohawk burial ground. Twelve-year-old Tekehentahkwa (nicknamed “Beans”) is forced into an early coming of age by these events, as her innocence turns to anger over the treatment of her people.”
