Cultural Heritage at Coastal Carolina University This is a page for students and community members to learn more about Cultural Heritage studies at Coastal Carolina and current events in the field.

Cultural Heritage Certificate Program -
Housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, cultural heritage studies prepares students to understand, interpret, and promote a broad range of artifacts, texts, buildings, landscapes, and behaviors of cultures around the world, with an emphasis on our own unique region. In an interdisciplinary undergraduate certificate program in cultural heritage studies, students train in heritage interpretation and outreach, promoting community engagement in the process. They develop skills and values pertinent to public history, digital history, museum studies, cultural resource management, and heritage tourism. The certificate involves 12 to 13 credit hours, complementing a wide range of majors, including history; anthropology and geography; art history; and hospitality, resort, and tourism management.

🕚 Gates open at 11:00 a.m.
📍 Waccamaw Tribal Grounds, 591 Blue Water Road, Aynor, SC 29511

Admission: $10 for adults; $5 for seniors and children ages 7–14; free for children ages 6 and under. Veterans wearing feathers from the Pauwau receive free admission.

This morning, our IDS430 and MALS530 Museum Studies students had the opportunity to visit the Horry County Museum with Director Walter Hill. Students explored what it takes to run a museum, from collections storage and archives to exhibit fabrication. 📚🖼️🛠️

Meet one of the instructors behind our Cultural Heritage Studies program! 🏛️✨

Dr. Amanda McGehee-Floyd has a Ph.D. in Public History and is especially interested in South Carolina culture and historic preservation. A CCU alum, she earned her B.A. in 2016 and her M.A. through the MALS program in 2018. She now brings that experience back to CCU as an instructor in Cultural Heritage Studies.
