Congratulations to these amazing bassoonists on another weekend of concerts! Ensemble Ibis delivered an evening full of contemporary music, including works by Marcos Balter and our very own Professor Charles Mason.
The following day, the Frost Wind Ensemble showcased musical traditions from around the world, featuring guest composer Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri’s “Khaen” and Michael Colgrass’s “Winds of Nagual”

An overdue congratulations to our three graduate bassoonists Lilian, Aaron, and Benjy for a spectacular performance with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra last Friday! Under the direction of Vince Mendoza, composer and conductor, they delivered a wonderfully jazzy performance and got to share the stage once again with Dean Shelly Berg on piano 🎹✨

And a special shoutout to our very own studio member Jacey for all of her hard work behind the scenes making sure the bassoons get heard!

A huge congratulations to everyone who performed this weekend! The had a truly inspiring performance of the world premiere of “Chant” by Bernard Rands along with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto no. 3 performed by the wonderful Santiago Rodriguez, renowned pianist and Frost faculty member. Closing the concert, we had a stunning performance of Beethoven’s 7th symphony.

The following day, the Frost Symphonic Winds delivered an amazing program entitled “Cities,” featuring works by James David, Hubert Perry, Thornton Boyer, and Norman Dello Joio. To end the busy weekend of concerts, we had a wonderful and exhilarating performance of Satoshi Yagisawa’s “Machu Picchu - City in the Sky”

This is the annual reminder that if you are a talented young musician who also has a strong academic record, applying to the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami by November 1 will automatically put you in the running for the Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholarship. Those who apply for early admission will also have the opportunity to audition for the school of music and be considered for music scholarship alongside the rest of our music applicants. Congratulations to this fantastic studio on a wonderful year! We have all loved playing together, learning from each other, and having fun at studio hangs. We’re sad that Aric, Ashley, and Dylan are leaving us, but they all have bright futures and we’re excited to see what they do! We ended the year strong with the 1911 Firebird Suite expanded to include the Berceuse and Finale, and a commission by Grammy-winning composer and Frost faculty member Carlos Rivera with ! We also had a fantastic program centered around water with . Congratulations to both ensembles, and especially to graduating studio TA for his Berceuse mention in the South Florida Classical Review!
