SMU's Women's Symposium

SMU's Women's Symposium Women's Symposium brings together SMU and Community leaders annually. Join us for the 59th! Baine, Dean of Women at SMU from 1962 to 1988.

The Women's Symposium was created in 1966 as a part of the University's Fiftieth Anniversary celebration by the late Emmie V. The Symposium is the longest continuously running program of its nature in the country and one of SMU's oldest and most distinguished traditions. The annual forum brings together women and men of differing ages and multicultural backgrounds to examine and discuss topics of national interest.

Another amazing speaker that we have for this year's Women Symposium is...

Brittany Broski! Brittany Broski took the internet by storm in 2019 with her wit, charm, and of course, distaste for kombucha. Brittany’s rise to fame has truly captured the new influencer frontiers of TikTok, demonstrating just how random – and yet, correct – virality can be. With nearly 8 million followers across her TikTok accounts, Brittany is currently one of the most viral people on the internet. Her social platforms continue to exponentially grow as more fans get hooked on her hilarious and relatable content. Since 2019, Brittany has been named Paper Magazine’s TikToker of the Year, appeared in a Super Bowl commercial, created content for Comedy Central and MTV, and has a number of ongoing brand deals. We are so excited to hear from Brittany, and we hope you are too! The podcast is linked in our bio 🎉

The secret’s out!

The keynote speaker for the 56th Annual Women’s Symposium is... Elaine Welteroth!! She is a New York Times bestselling author, award-winning journalist, former Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue and Judge on the new Project Runway. She is known for her groundbreaking word at the helm of Teen Vogue, where in 2016 she was appointed the youngest ever Editor-in-Chief at a Condé Nast publication and used her position to prioritize diversity and social justice coverage. She’s now a leading expert and advocate for the next generation of change makers. In 2020, Elaine was recently appointed Cultural Ambassador for Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote initiative and in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, she helped launch the 15 Percent Pledge, a non-profit advocacy organization that recruits major retailers including Sephora and Macy’s to commit at least 15% of their purchasing power to Black-owned business.
