DMA student Ben Clark prepares for his final doctoral recital in Gothic Hall, here playing the lavishly embellished chorale “Jesus Christus, unser heiland” by Heinrich Scheidemann. Our beloved Fisk does a splendid job conveying this beautiful music!
“Adoration” by Florence Price
Sophomore undergraduate organ major Daniel Gauger plays the sumptuous “Adoration” by Florence Price in a lesson today in preparation for a concert of her music (organ, vocal, and piano) next month organized by piano faculty member Dr. Igor Lipinski. As a native of Little Rock, Daniel has a particular interest in Price’s music and her Arkansas heritage. The strings and clarinet of Mini Mo sing comfortably in this lovely music.

Either there's a train coming, or our students are carving the upper lip of wood pipes with their newly sharpened chisels. Yes, we have a seminar on the sharpening of tools. That's how we roll.
Cavaillé-Coll slotted Prestant
Today, nearing the end of our seminar, we took the 4' Prestant that began as Clicquot would have voiced it, then as Cavaillé-Coll would have revoiced it early in his career, and, finally, as he would have revoiced it at the end of his career, with slots cut, maximizing the tonal potential of the pipe. This part of the seminar became much more experimental, with participants re-voicing their pipes in ways that might have retained some of the original Clicquot style, or a bit less forced, or even MORE tone. Bertrand Cattiaux has led us through 150 years of development in the French organbuilding tradition.
We test our jeu de tierce, copied from Clicquot, by itself in the acoustic for which it was meant. Then, in alternatim with the Fisk. Tuning and scaling issues aside, it's quite wonderful.
