Amateur Astronomy Club at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Amateur Astronomy Club at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University We work alongside the ERAU Physical Sciences Department to bring astronomy-related public events to the Daytona Beach community.

The Amateur Astronomy Club at ERAU is dedicated to keeping you informed about what astronomy events are happening in the Daytona Beach area and bringing you astronomy-related content and current events! The Embry-Riddle Amateur Astronomy Club (AAC) is a student astronomy organization that focuses on training members on astronomical equipment, teaching members about astronomy fundamentals and curre

nt happenings in the field of astronomy, and creating a community for people who are passionate about astronomy, space, or the aerospace industry. The Astronomy Open House occurs three times per Fall and Spring semester and has won the prestigious Eagle Program of Year Award in both 2014 and 2016. You can find us at these events running interactive & educational activities, leading tours of our very own cross-campus, scale-model Solar System, and showing visitors the stars through AAC and ERAU telescopes, including the largest telescope in Florida, the ERAU 1-meter. In addition to working with public astronomy, the AAC hosts one camping trip each semester and takes the telescopes out for private star parties. Our club members have even started their own undergraduate research project: building a Dobsonian telescope! We are hoping to get into more research project as the club raises enough funding to build a collection of research-grade telescopes and imaging equipment. The student organization is open to ERAU students and faculty and their friends and family. We meet on Monday nights in the COAS. Contact a club member for more information!

Good afternoon Astronomers! We have an Astronomy Open House tonight in ERAU's COAS building from 8-11 PM. Dr. James E. T. Channell will be delivering a talk titled "Measurements of the Earth's Ancient Magnetic Field" which runs from 7-8 PM.

Unfortunately due to expected weather tonight, we will not be setting up telescopes in the Quad and will instead have multiple telescopes as well as our astrophotography rig in COAS Room 128.1 where our tech director and astrophotography chair will be providing information about the telescopes we use.

We will have AAC's and our joining club's demonstrations set up throughout COAS including the SARA Remote Observatory viewing sessions and our usual 1-meter telescope tours.
