CONGRATULATIONS to our graduates! We appreciate all the love and support we felt yesterday - thank you to all who joined us in celebrating the hard work, dedicated learning, and purposeful empowerment we cultivate at ID. A special thank you to Payton Alexandre, who spoke to us about his work with Mutual Aid Disaster Relief and how we can harness the power in our unity to build each other and our communities. Our five graduates embody our values of pursuing equity, inclusion and diversity in everything we do. Thank you for your passion! @ WeWork

Join us on Wednesday for the graduation of our current cohort and learn about community-based crisis response with our keynote speaker, Payton Alexandre.

"Payton Alexandre is a community organizer living in Ypsilanti, MI. He's spent the past year working with Mutual Aid Disaster Relief as a workshop facilitator. With a small team of activists, he toured the country to connect with diverse communities and share tools for navigating the practical and emotional hurdles of community-based crisis response. The state and non-profit complex routinely fail to bring equitable aid to the most marginalized before, during, and after disasters. Only through grassroots networks built at the speed of trust can we have our most intimate needs met."

Happy new year! Instead of creating new year’s resolutions I like to choose a few themes or values that I incorporate into my life and habits throughout the year. This year, those themes are: empowerment, community, and service. These values are not only meaningful to me personally, but they are also at the core of the work that we do at Integrate Detroit (ID).

I invite you to start your new year off with a focus on these values - join us on January, Wednesday 9th for our second cohort’s graduation: https://www.meetup.com/Integral-Detroit/events/257252471/.

As the Detroit and Michigan technology fields grow rapidly, there is a critical need to empower Detroit residents to join this burgeoning industry. ID prepares graduates with the skills and foundation to join any Agile software development team, and works hard to make our education accessible. ID also relies heavily on community involvement - our syllabus welcomes guest lectures from local technologists, and we encourage our students and the larger ID community to support one another in their goals and growth. Above all, we are here to serve those who are typically overlooked - we strive to increase the representation of minorities in tech, and we know that this is possible with accessibility and equity in education.

We hope to see you on January 9th - there will be food, drinks, inspiring speakers, and most importantly, a final project presentation from our graduates. For those interested in applying to our next cohort, please email [email protected]

We hope you've enjoyed meeting our cohort so far! We have two more students to introduce, first up is Stephanie:

After being adopted by Chicago for 14 years, Stephanie hit 'RESET' and returned to her hometown of Detroit in 2015 to reboot her writing ambitions into a tech career. This bold move has since yielded a foray into Computer Science education. With over a decade of experience in media-focused Communications, the Grand Circus alumna (Javascript, '16) is always looking to share her passion for the T in STEM with developers & non-developers alike.

As a former Metrology Calibration Technician, Clark Vaughan understood the value of programming skills, but found the opportunities for advancement severely limited and undervalued.

So he retrained formally through two Grand Circus Detroit Java-based backend development bootcamps, and the Logols, Inc. 10-week C # Bootcamp. He has used these introductory experiences as a catalyst for further online learning.

Clark was immediately enthused about the Integrate Detroit program because of the opportunity to gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of challenging Computer Science concepts.
