The H&CE 241 - Leadership and Presentation Techniques class spent some time outside last week working on the pipe exercise. Seemingly easy, the objective is for all eight participants to raise the pipe at the same time using just their first and middle fingers (no thumbs to hold it in). It takes teamwork to do it! This is a lesson in leadership!

Aspiring Bull Rider Creates West River Hat Company

We love seeing our students have an entrepreneurial spirit! Congratulations to Lane Berg on his West River Hat Co. business! Lane is earning his B.S. in Agricultural Studies with a Business/Marketing option and will graduate in May 2019.

What once started out as a dream is slowly turning into reality for Lane Berg, an aspiring bull rider, entrepreneur, and student at Dickinson State University. Berg grew up on a farm 40 miles west of Fargo, North Dakota where he and his family raised beef and longhorn cattle. "I grew up raising catt...

The Medora Musical is a gem in Western North Dakota. It's so fun to be able to say that the DSU Dept. of Agriculture and Technical Studies had ties to three students in the show last night! On Thursday, August 30, 2018, during the Ghost Ride of the Medora Musical, Amanda Gleich, a current B.S. in Agricultural Studies Student with an option in Integrated Ranch Management, portrayed Harold Schafer; Mandy Marboe, a May 2017 graduate with a B.S. in Agricultural Studies with options in Range Management and Natural Resource Management portrayed the Marquis de Mores; and Emily Marboe, who was a student in our department, portrayed Sitting Bull. It's hard to spot them (and definitely hard to point them out!), but these three women are at the top of the hill behind and to the right of the Medora sign. Mandy is the manager of the Medora Riding Stables. Three cheers to these girls for being a part of a very memorable scene of the Medora Musical!

What a way to start the day! The Ag Building was outfitted with a new fire alarm system this summer. This morning, the system decided to test itself (no fire!) and the RNG 336 - Introduction to Range Management class started class outside! Thanks to the Dickinson Fire Department for coming to secure the building and turn off the alarm. Guess we know it works! :)

It's an auspicious moment and I wanted to share it with you! Pictured here is Clay Jorgenson and Head Rodeo Coach Eudell Larsen enjoying NO RAIN in their faces! With the new indoor arena roof, although it's raining outside, it's no longer raining inside! We are super happy that Twin City Roofing put on the new roof this summer. It's so much safer for our rodeo athletes in the arena this year. HIP! HIP! HOORAY!

NORTH DAKOTA'S BULLDOGGING BOY WONDER

Lookout North Dakota, your bulldogging boy wonder, who is all man, and a former collegiate national champion for Dickinson State University, is climbing up the national professional rodeo rankings and is headed for the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Oh sure, it's early in the year, but Cameron Morman, from Glen Ullin, is showing a consistency that is key to being a world champion. And it doesn't hurt that he might be the nicest, most well-rounded guy in the world.

One of the hallmarks of the DSU Dept. of Agriculture and Technical Studies' programs is field trips! Mr. Toby Stroh and Dr. Josh Steffan headed to Fort Keogh Miles City ARS with the ANSC 220 - Livestock Production and RNG 458 - Rangeland Ecology classes. The DSU students were joined by students from Williston State College (taught by DSU graduate Jessalyn Bachler), Dawson Community College, and Miles Community College. The students learned about the history of Fort Keogh, ruminant nutrition and anatomy (rumen candula), water quality, rangeland ecology and fire, and least cost beef animal feeding. Thanks to Dr. Steffan for all the pictures!
