Amy Tan at Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference 2019 - John Muir Laws

I had the privilege of meeting a very generous #JohnMuirLaws while on a visit to my son a few years back to Northern California. I happened to be at a nature center where he was giving a local workshop. He gave me a ride to our next destination and I got to learn more about him and nature journaling. This short forward by #AmyTan (another amazing human) of his new book, very succinctly captures why drawing should be an integral part of every curriculum, not just art !

Amy Tan, bestselling author of The Joy Luck Club and other novels is also an avid nature journaler. At the Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference 2019, she read the preface she wrote for the new book, How to Teach Nature Journaling, by John Muir Laws and Emilie Lygren (Heyday Books, 2020). http://...

How Artists on Twitter Tricked Spammy T-Shirt Stores Into Admitting Their Automated Art Theft – Waxy.org

Fight for artist's and designer's rights to their work. This is an excellent read about how bots use Twitter to take popular images and print them on shirts. These shirts are printed without legal permission from the artist and the artist is offered no compensation.

Spammy bots are searching Twitter for images to illegally sell on t-shirts, so the indie artists they're ripping off teamed up to subvert them.

Low-Level Offenders in NYC Can Now Take an Art Class Instead of Appearing in Court

Art education is powerful

In 2009, the number of annual misdemeanor arraignments in New York City peaked at more than 320,000. Although this figure has dropped in years since, the city’s court system remains overburdened, leading officials to explore initiatives aimed at avoiding prosecution for low-level offenders. As Hak...

Friends With Death documents the step by step process of artist Jim McKenzie’s Grim Reaper sculpture in the form of stop motion animation. Over 7,000 photos were shot simultaneously as the piece was being sculpted to create this five minute short film. The finished sculpture was later displayed as a center piece in McKenzie’s mini solo exhibition, “Art Of Character” at Corey Helford Gallery which ran from June 29th 2019 - August 4th 2019.

How To Do Well (And Be Happy!) In College

The key to successful learning is knowing you are the major factor in retention. You must engage in your learning in order to process the information. Sitting and listening is passive, your educators can not put their knowledge in your head, that's your job. Here are some tips on being successful:

Should you hand-write your notes or use a laptop? What about flashcards? Does highlighting even do anything? Here's how to improve your study habits and remember what you've learned — and keep college stress under control.

Glennys, 26, a strong member of our community and a 2017 graduate of our Graphic Design program passed away Wednesday May 15 2019 after a tragic accident. She was a wonderful person, her soul was full of love, life, and care and respect for others. Glenn had a deep love and respect for Tompkins Cortland Community College and the arts. She was attending SUNY Cortland Art and Art History Department to earn her bachelors degree. Both communities are deeply affected by the loss of such a vibrant presence. She was an active community member who was passionate about the well being of others. We will miss her very much, as will all who knew her or even had the opportunity to spend a few moments with her. She was a people person through and through. Thank you Glennys for sharing your light with us, we will be forever grateful.
