TC3 Black Lives Matter Digital Quilt#2 needs to be completed. Tompkins Cortland Community College community please help fill it. You can submit a square here: https://kelabmag.weebly.com/blm-project.html

Alumni, former students and employees, concurrent enrollment students and faculty, staff, and faculty can all submit. Not an Artist? It is ok, as you can see non-artists have collaborated with artists to create squares. Message or email me and I will pair you with a student or myself to visually communicate your ideas. Show your support and help contribute to the Black Lives Matter visual presence on campus.

I'd like to get to at least 4 quilts total to hang in various locations on campus. Art helps to keep movements visual when news coverage has died down. The more voices that contribute to the project increases the visual show of support on campus.

Join us for dynamic and engaging LIVE REMOTE LEARNING this Fall!

The art courses at the college are now updated in the online catalog. The art courses will be dynamic remote courses that use video conferencing for live class time, this is why there is still a course time associated with the class. If you have questions please message us or contact an art program chair through the college website. Students in Spring enjoyed our art remote courses offerings and rated them as highly as their in person campus experience. This fall, with months of planning, will be even better. Contact us today to register! Information for online registration and college plans is available at: https://www.tompkinscortland.edu/coronavirus

Tompkins Cortland Community College

Last night members of the Cortland community came together to make a definitive statement against systemic racism. The message: "Black Lives Matter." Closing Main Street to vehicle traffic for several hours, local artists including adjunct instructor Crystal Lyon and Graphic Design chair Christine Shanks, emblazoned the city's central intersection with the three word phrase symbolizing equality. It's a message that resonates strongly on our campus and makes us proud to belong to this place and to this global moment. We applaud all those who took part including our staff and alumni, and pledge to continue the dialogue with our students. @ Cortland, New York

Great photos of the event and the finished mural by Anthony Smith

Last night in Cortland, New York I joined a group of local artists to help layout and paint this street mural. The people that showed up to support what was happening were fantastic!

Thanks to the band that just showed to jam! Thanks to those from the community for lending a hand with painting! The rain may have washed this away without you. Thanks to the City of Cortland for providing the center of town for space to do this and Mayor Tobin for coming out. Thanks to the DJ! Most of all thanks to the financial donors who made this possible and fed us!

BLACK LIVES MATTER Project Update:
I am still accepting squares, please see the webpage for details, you can submit right through the online form at the bottom of the page https://kelabmag.weebly.com/blm-project.html

For all participants (quilt#1 and future quilts), your submission will allow you to add that your work is featured in the permanent collection archive at The History Center in Tompkins County

For participants published in quilt#1 the quilt is being printed/mounted and will be in a permanent exhibit at The History Center in Tompkins County in or in close proximity to their research library.

All participants can claim a permanent online exhibition on the webpage above for the project. Also, the quilts will all be printed and exhibited at the college's campus. Quilt 1 will be printed and installed this summer. I am hoping we can reach at least 4 quilts total!

Tompkins Cortland Community College has promoted the project on social media and on their website, see screenshot below and the direct link https://www.tompkinscortland.edu/…/college-community-produc…

There is a possible future inclusion of the quilts in an exhibit at The History Center. Should this happen information will be forthcoming.

Participating in a project like this brings many rewards. Resume lines are the least important but very valuable for individuals. Permanent collection and exhibit lines are very important for artists, designers, and other's resumes, they legitimize our work as creatives and provide a wider network for our voices to be heard.

Graduate of Note 2020 Anna Gallegos is a force of nature!

Anna has been awarded the Graduate of Note and the Athena Art Award for her Spring 2020 graduation. Anna has consistently been awarded The Dean's list and is also been a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Outdoor Adventure Club.

Anna is an truly exceptional student. As her advisor and program chair I repeatedly get compliments from other faculty and staff about her positive attitude, willingness to help others, and her excellent work. I of course recognize these things as well. Anna has volunteered for the college and created themed posters for the library to promote reading. She is the Creative Director on Ke'lab and doing an amazing job project managing, leading, and creating/designing a fantastic edition. She exhibits her work outside of the college, does professional level work, and always puts more than expected into her work. Her final portfolio rivals and surpasses the quality of many 4 year graduates.

Anna has been an inspiration, motivator, and tutor/support to her peers and has led by setting a high standard and outstanding example. Very few come through our doors, or any college's doors, like Anna. Congratulations Anna Gallegos on all of your accomplishments!
