Our night in Plano reminded us that the Vaquero spirit travels well. Even far from campus, the connections felt close and familiar—full of warmth, reflection, and pride.

Hey Vaquero alumni! đź‘‹

You remember how uncertain that transition from college to career can feel—especially without built-in industry connections or guidance. With 60% of UTRGV students identifying as first-generation, many of our grads are stepping into the professional world without a clear roadmap.

That’s why we’re inviting YOU to be part of our Grad-to-Grad series by sharing your experience and advice for our Spring 2025 graduates. 🎓💬

Drop your insights by answering the comments below 👇 and help remind our newest alumni that they’re not alone. 🧡

Natasha del Barrio, a proud UTRGV legacy alumna 🎓, never expected a summer marketing job would turn into a lifelong career. Twenty-six years later, she is leading one of Texas’ largest automotive companies as CEO of Bert Ogden Auto Group, overseeing more than 1,200 employees with a bold, people-first approach in a historically male-dominated industry.

This year, she was named one of Automotive News’ 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry for the sixth time!

Natasha, who earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration, exemplifies the spirit of a Vaquero through her leadership and commitment to uplifting those around her. We’re proud to see alumni like her rising to the top of their fields and continuing to inspire their communities. Congratulations, Natasha, on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉

🎓 Congratulations to the UTRGV School of Medicine Class of 2025!

We were honored to welcome back Dr. Jonathan Guajardo—member of the second UTRGV School of Medicine graduating class—as this year’s keynote speaker. A Houston native, Dr. Guajardo came to the Valley for medical school and was deeply impacted by the health disparities he witnessed here. His experiences shaped a commitment to community-based care that continues today through his work at housing clinics in Los Angeles. Looking ahead, he shared a powerful dream: to one day return and help transform the Rio Grande Valley into a blue zone—a region where long, healthy lives are the norm, thanks to a culture rooted in movement, connection, and well-being.

As Dr. Guajardo reminded us, the communities that shape us never truly leave us. Whether you stay close or take your talents far, we hope you carry the spirit of the Valley—and the values you learned here—with you.

Welcome to the alumni family, Class of 2025. We can’t wait to see all you’ll accomplish—be sure to keep us updated on your journey by filling out your alumni profile at https://f.mtr.cool/awhkvpkmrf and sharing your milestones along the way! 🥳✌️

💍✨ At Wednesday night’s Ring Ceremony in Edinburg, UTRGV proudly welcomed alumnus Alex Velasco as this year’s distinguished alumni speaker.

As co-founder and CEO of Fork to Fit Kitchen, Alex set out to address a pressing need in the Rio Grande Valley: healthier, more accessible food options. What began as a personal mission has grown into a thriving business, with Fork to Fit recently celebrating the opening of its ninth location—right here in Edinburg on McColl and Freddy Gonzalez. Along the way, Fork to Fit has collaborated with organizations—including UTRGV Athletics—to help support performance and well-being through smart, balanced meals.

In his remarks, Alex reminded ring recipients of the significance their ring holds—a symbol of their academic journey, and a reminder of the potential they carry moving forward. His story reminds us of what’s possible when passion meets purpose—and how a Vaquero education can serve as a springboard for meaningful change in our community and beyond.

Today, Alex stands as a powerful example of the full-circle journey so many of our students aspire to—returning to their alma mater not only to celebrate a milestone, but to inspire the next generation to dream bigger.
