Meet Pamela Hotchkiss, a freshman Elementary Education Major with a Worship Ministry Minor. Pamela attends and serves at All Things New Church which is a starter church that rents out part of North Park Community Church. Pamela learned about this church through her roommate Elizabeth Box who also attends and serves there. Pamela is currently an intern at the church and is the Sunday school teacher for the kindergarten through second grade students.
In her home church in Gresham, East Hill Church, Pamela was involved with her church community. She led mission trips to Rwanda Africa to work with students. So far, she has gone four times and plans to lead more students in the future.
Pamela encourages Bushnell students to get involved in their local churches by saying, “Working with a church is so important from getting to know people, to helping with kids. I am currently majoring in education, and this has helped me grow in how to teach others about the Lord. And it is fun!”

Small group Highlight
Led by: Kalani Miller and Sarah Lemke

Sarah and Kalani co-lead a small group that is focused on biblical friendships. They meet Tuesdays at 2 in the Commuter Lounge. They are welcoming to anyone joining them in this journey of navigating biblical friendships. Kalani says that their group is, “passionate about Jesus and laughter! We love studying the Bible together, but there's plenty of chaos and laughter to go with it.” They strive to be a welcoming and kind light in the Bushnell community. Each of the members has a passion to embrace community with others. Contact Kalani Miller or Sarah Lemke if you are interested in joining this small group or come to their next meeting on Tuesday.

Small Group Highlight

Led by: Justin Heintz and Katie Blackhart

This small group meets weekly to form a closer relationship with God and with others. Justin says, “When we meet, we discuss biblical and spiritual topics, and we communicate our own shortcomings or successes in our walks with Christ. We want to encourage, support, and help one another stay accountable in treating others with the love of Christ. We hope to be a blessing in how we communicate, serve, and act towards the students and faculty here at Bushnell. We hope this love bleeds out to the students of U of O as well.”
This group is passionate about prayer, and they pray for each, and with each other weekly. They have plans to implement a campus wide prayer system because they know that prayer changes lives. They say, “Within our student wide prayer system, we would love to have as many people praying as possible, we have some ideas on how this would look but it is still in the beginning stages! Stay tuned!”

Club Highlight: Missions Awareness Club

The Missions Awareness Club’s goal is to bring awareness to the mission of Christ. The club puts on monthly Mission Nights which seek to inspire students and show what is going on in the global mission field. They highlight people who are doing local mission work and people who are doing work in other countries.

The club is excited to resume its monthly Mission Night’s when school starts back up in the fall. If you are interested in learning more about the Missions Club or would like to get involved, please email Annalee McIntosh.

Church Involvement Highlight: Jasmine Aguilar

Jasmine grew up in a Christian home and attends Centro Cristiano Familiar where her dad is the pastor. She grew up attending CCF and continues to support her Church and dad by attending and being involved at the church. She is involved with the worship team. She is currently the lead pianist and sometimes hops on electric bass.

She says, “Being involved with a church has helped my spiritual growth while in college. I have a place where I can go and try to let go of my academic stress and focus on worshiping God. It's not always easy, but it is worth it.”

Meet Cameron Binaley. He will be graduating this Spring with a major in History and a minor in Bible and Theology.

He says, "One aspect of the Christian Ministry department that has been most encouraging to me has been how supportive the professors have been. Specifically, Dr. Melisa Berry has been an instrumental role in my personal and academic growth while at Bushnell. She both cared for me as an individual as well as pushed me to achieve academically and purse the Song Nai Rhee Honors Program."

Meet Isabell Webber. She will be graduating this Spring with a Psychology major and a Christian Ministry minor.

She says, "The aspect of the Christian Ministry department that has been most encouraging to me has been the way classes are facilitated with professors who want to have genuine relationships and desire students to ask questions. The availability of the professor to email and meet in office hours has been hugely beneficial. The department has encouraged me to learn more about God in a way that is not just writing papers for the sake of writing papers, but engaging with content and thoughts to strengthen my ability to minister to the Church and world in love."

Here's a recap of our Bible, Theology, and Christian Ministry retreat. This Spring our objective was for those involved to become more intentional about walking with God in the different seasons of our lives. We spent some time studying Daniel 1 and reflecting with one another.
One student commented that the retreat "helped me to restart and refocus my mind and heart on Christ. It was encouraging to be with my peers and poured into by staff who are all of the same Kingdom mindset"
It is crucial to Bushnell University to instill within our students a mindset of wisdom, faith, and service. This retreat is just one of many ways we do that.

Senior Highlight: Jared Dodson

Jared Dodson will be furthering his biblical education by going to seminary in Fall 2022. He has been working on campus as a teaching assistant for Dr. Swoboda, as well as doing a research internship at Bushnell. Through this internship he has been able to teach in classes and lead a series of devotional seminars on campus. In these seminars he covers topics such as mental health, finding a mentor, staying organized, and more. He says the best piece of advice he received at Bushnell was to, “see everything that I am doing as ministry. I learned that we don't have to be hired as a pastor to minister to others, but we can show Christ's love in everything that we do.”

Jared says, “The most affirming and life transforming experience I have had at Bushnell has been being poured into by all the faculty, and by working with Dr. Swoboda specifically.” He believes that the most encouraging aspect of the Christian Ministry department has been the constant support of the faculty. He is excited to spend his last few days before graduation with the people who shaped him into who he is today.
