We, the Northwestern Coalition for Peace, represent students in support of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. We reject the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, which is an international campaign to demonize and delegitimize the State of Israel. We believe in Israel’s right to exist with safe an
d secure borders alongside a secure and independent state of Palestine. In the coming weeks, you will witness the NUDivest campaign. NUDivest is based on the BDS movement, a campaign whose goals will not result in a peaceful end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or promote human rights for all in the region, but rather in the demise of Israel as a Jewish state. While they claim that they do not condemn an individual country, this is precisely what the movement is all about. Northwestern Coalition for Peace will provide our community with the resources to learn more about what we stand for. In the coming days, we will invite the Northwestern University community to join us in our effort to oppose this divestment campaign and the destructive nature of the BDS movement behind it. We believe NUDivest ultimately detracts from realistic efforts to end a conflict thousands of miles away. The necessary and just call for a Palestinian state cannot come with a systematic denial of the same right for Jews.
