On June 3rd Guatemala’s Fuego volcano erupted and caused the deaths of many, as well as left thousands without homes. We are shocked and saddened by the sudden volcanic eruption located 27 miles southwest of the capital, Guatemala City. Now more than ever Nuestra Gente needs our help in aid to those evacuated, injured and threaten by the volcano. Currently many deaths have occurred and could increase as the volcanic activity is said to still not have been controlled. Critical, and emergency needs are still enormous, and affected communities will need sustained and long-term support

09/07/2017

In light of the recent decision taken place by President Trump and his administration on September 5th, the reciprocation of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was announced. This program offered protection to nearly 800,000 young people granting them an opportunity to study in our schools, work, and hold a driver's licence. These driven individuals are our family members, friends, neighbors, and most importantly people who are not finished yet, who still want to accomplish their goals and dreams for the betterment of themselves and their future generations to come.

The Hispanic Student Association at George Mason University would like to offer our support to all those who have been impacted by this dreadful news. This is not the end, but the beginning to achieve something better for all those undocumented individuals who wish to continue improving their life. As a Latinx community it is our duty to come together and create a bigger voice for the undocumented community not only on our campus but in this country. We are here for you and we will resist with you. We encourage you all to continue to stay informed and to not give up because we have made it this far. We are integral members of society and each one of us matter.

What we should know about the ending of DACA
*No new DACA application will be accepted
*Your DACA is valid until its expiration date
*DACA issuances that expire between now
and March 5th, 2018 MUST be submitted
for renewal by October 5th, 2017

Please feel free to reach out to any of our executive board members through our HSA email or social media, we are here to listen and provide you with any resources you might need. Everything can and will be confidential.

Stay Strong. Stay Positive. Unidos Por Cultura. United By Culture.
