This past Thursday at the @masonalumni Celebration of Distinction, Hermano Rodrigo Velasquez (Spring 2016) was awarded the 2019 Distinguished Latino Alumni Award!
Rodrigo was recognized by President Angel Cabrera in his opening remarks for his significant contributions to George Mason University and the community at large and was recognized in front of other distinguished alumni. We are very very proud of you, Hermano! Keep up making a difference in this world!

Rodrigo Velasquez works as Senior Legislative Aide to Delegate Kathy Tran in the Virginia House of Delegates. In this role, he works on legislative and political matters for Delegate Tran. In college, Rodrigo was President of Mason DREAMers and currently sits on the Mason DREAMers Advisory Board. Since coming out as both gay and undocumented his sophomore year in college, Rodrigo has been heavily involved in advocating for immigrants and LGBTQ people. His background in immigration and higher education policy has served him in the various roles he takes in the local and state government. Over the years, Rodrigo has been a regular guest on Spanish and English news media to talk about immigration issues and has been recognized for his work by the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, Centreville Immigration Forum, Washington Peace Center, and Office for Diversity Inclusion and Multicultural Education at George Mason University.
