At UndocuMason, we believe in supporting our undocu+ students on & off campus by creating an inclusive environment through education and advocacy. Today we present to you a few of the goals that we have accomplished this semester. We would also like to thank the continuous support of our executive board, our advisory board, allies, and GMU admin who helped us achieve so much in one semester.
If you would like to stay connected with us and support our mission, you can find ways to do so in the last slide of this post.
Please note that our students will be enjoying Winter Break until mid-January, so we may take longer than usual to respond to emails and requests. We look forward to what next semester brings and to build upon our accomplishments. In the meantime, we wish you happy holidays and a happy new year.
In solidarity,
UndocuMason 🧡

From now December 17 to December 31 we will be fundraising for the Mason Dream Scholarship. The Mason Dream Scholarship was established in 2016 by Lisa M. Gring-Pemble and Geoffrey C. Pemble in partnership with UndocuMason (formerly Mason Dreamers). This fund provides scholarships to students whose immigration status may hinder them from accessing higher education. Applicants may be documented or undocumented immigrant students, regardless of Visa, DACA, and/or TPS status. Preference will be given to a School of Business student, but the scholarship can also be awarded to students from any Mason degree program with special consideration given to students identified by the Center for Culture, Equity, and Empowerment. We have created a bingo for donations, which can be sent to our Venmo @UndocuMason. Please write “Mason Dream Scholarship” when donating!

🗣 Have you RSVP’d for Immigration Monologues? Register today at bit.ly/imonologues (case sensitive)✨Today, we’re so excited to introduce one of our 7 speakers:
Shirleen Achieng is a UC Irvine alumni who identifies as a Black undocumented immigrant without DACA status. She is very passionate about immigration justice and has an extensive background advocating for undocumented resources on her campus. After her freshman year, she decided to get involved with SAFIRE, the undocumented student led organization on her campus. Being the only Black and non-DACA student in the space, she quickly began to realize the different challenges she faced compared to her undocumented peers. As a result, she decided to create resources for non-DACA students by forming the non-DACA advocacy group, which consisted of undocumented students without DACA and allies passionate about their efforts.
📣 Hear Shirleen’s story on Saturday, October 10th from 6-8pm EST via Facebook Live! Don’t forget to RSVP.

Hi everyone!
My name is Claudia Flores and I am the campaigns manager for immigration at the Center for American Progress. Every year, we work with the National Immigration Law Center, United We Dream, and Professor Tom Wong of the University of California, San Diego, in a survey to learn more about the impacts of the DACA program on beneficiaries and communities. The Fifth Annual Survey was just launched and I need your help in sharing it with as many Dreamers as possible. More information below. Please note that any information submitted through the survey will be entirely confidential. This means that published findings will not contain any personal identifiable information. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected].
WHAT: 2019 DACA SURVEY
WHO: anyone who currently has DACA, anyone who has ever held DACA, or a DACA-eligible individual who has been unable to apply due to the program’s rescission.
LINK to survey: http://bit.ly/2019DACASURVEY
If you are a DACA recipient, we encourage you to consider filling out the survey and share it with other DACA recipients. Your experiences matter and they can help inform policymakers, advocates, and decision makers about the impacts DACA has had. Moreover, because DACA will be in front of the U.S. Supreme Court this November, your experiences are crucial in protecting the program.
IMPEACHMENT OF TRUMP MUST START NOW!
ALL OUT TO WASHINGTON D.C. Saturday, June 1st for the National March to Impeach (Rally at the Washington Monument 1pm-3pm, then march to the White House)
The historic failure of the Democratic Party in Congress to defend democracy from Trump’s attacks means that only an independent movement can defeat Trump. Trump must resign or be removed — we must mobilize to force Congress to start impeachment NOW.
This moment in history demands heroism — to defend democracy, to defend immigrant rights, to defend humanity against Trump’s tyranny.
Release the full un-redacted Mueller report now.
No war with Iran, no U.S. intervention in Venezuela.
No Muslim ban.
No racist border wall; open the borders.
Full defense of the right of asylum! Let the caravans in! No child separation! No detention!
Shut down immigrant concentration camps!
No deportations!
Full citizenship rights for all immigrants.

WE FIRST MUST EDUCATE, BEFORE WE CAN ERADICATE RACISM
If the Governor and State House want to help race relations in Virginia, then do the right thing and remove the Confederate Statues to a museum instead of allowing them to be publicly displayed on the streets of Virginia.
CONFEDERACY- It is not only about Slavery… It Is Also About TREASON!
In the State of Virginia and other southern states, there are Confederate Statues that are boldly displayed on public streets. Some may see it as a way to honor the dead of the Civil War. Yet, at the same time it only honored those who attacked our country. Those who tried to destroy our constitution, demolish our government, steal half our country from us, and disdain our American flag by replacing it with a Confederate one.
Faithful Americans, who fought against the confederacy, who gave up their lives, nearly 400,000 Union lives, fighting off the South from taking over our country. I ask you, should not they be the only ones that we honor? Do the people of Germany honor Hitler with Nazi statues? Nazi statues that looks down upon the Jewish people to remind them of the Holocaust and torment that they suffered. Do you as an American feel it is right to have statues in this country that reminds Black people of the cruelty and inhumanity that they suffered during over 200 years of Slavery?
If we are going to display statues of those who attacked our country, should we not have one of Osama Bin Laden on the White House’s lawn? Osama attacked our country, but even he was not a traitor who attacked his own country. This is not only about Slavery, those who fought to keep Black people in chains, who were kidnapped, degraded and beaten to death by whips. This is not about Black women who were forced to breed like animals against their will, while helplessly being sexually attacked by their slave master.
No, this is about TREASON, and every true American, no matter Black or White, should be ashamed to allow statues of those who attacked our country be proudly displayed in the public streets of Virginia or any other state. – Gregory St. James Mundy
PS. Concerning the Lt. Governor, unlike the United States Senate, we cannot make a mockery of Virginia’s legislation. If anyone feel that they have been harmed by anyone then that decision should only be carried out in our courts of law, not by any political party.

Applications NOW AVAILABLE for the 2018 Mason LeaderShape Institute!! Don't miss out on this amazing experience. For more info and to apply, visit: https://lead.gmu.edu/leadershapeinstitute/. The deadline to apply is March 23rd.
Here's what some of our students have to say:
"In six days, the Mason LeaderShape Institute embodied what George Mason University stands for, a message that takes some students their entire college career to learn: freedom to grow and discover the numerous possibilities in the world, and learning how being a leader is something anyone can accomplish if they “have a healthy disregard for the impossible.”
"I am so grateful to the LEAD office for providing me with that collaborative space and especially for that week-long immersion into those relationships. LeaderShape has continued to impact my outlook on my abilities. I am constantly reflecting on my knowledge learned in the week, and applying it to my day-to-day situations. I often find my motivation comes from thinking about all the goals I set back at LeaderShape. At the end of that week, I walked away so excited to start the Fall semester, feeling very connected to my campus community."
"Going to the LeaderShape Institute was one of the most enriching experiences I have had during my college experience. During this 6-day institute, I grew tremendously as a person. I was put into an environment with other students, faculty, staff, and professionals that all wanted to focus on personal development and personal growth while learning how to contribute their own individual voice to events and issues that are important today. This institute allowed me to take a deeper look into myself and where I currently stand with my leadership skills and how I could grow and develop more into the woman that I wanted to become. I left with so many useful tools and connections to others at Mason because of this trip."
"Being a part of the LeaderShape Institute at Mason provided me with the BIGGEST transformation throughout my college experience. The things I gained from LeaderShape are things few people, who are lucky enough, get to experience in their lifetime. For the first time in my life, I was given tools to help me define myself."
"The most rewarding aspect of Mason LeaderShape was what I learned about myself and my capacity to be a catalyst for positive change. This has allowed me to focus on my vision and continue to work on it in a way that will contribute to society."
