IT'S CAREER FAIR SEASON! Thank you to George Mason University Career Services for hosting awesome Career Fairs. Tomorrow, October 3rd, is the fair for: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Thursday, October 4, is the Business, Public Service and Non-Tech fair.
To help you prepare, we've compiled 🔟 tips to help you stand out, along with some photos (courtesy of GMU Gamma Phi Beta!) of great business attire.
1. Bring at least 10 copies of your résumé! And not on printer paper—try and print for a heavier card stock weight. It's a great way to continue standing out, far after your introductions.
2. Do your research! It's important to know about the companies you want to meet with. Mason provides a list of all the employers that will be here. You can find it here: https://app.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/5510/employers_list
3. Introduce yourself and be prepared to give your personal "elevator pitch." Shake their hand, introduce yourself, give them your résumé, and be ready to talk about yourself and your academic and career pursuits.
4. Ask the representative for their card. More likely than not, they will have a hefty stack of business cards, and it's a great way to be sure to stay in touch!
5. Make good eye contact. Eye contact is a way to show that you are engaged in the conversation, and it's a great way to present yourself confidently.
6. Bring a notebook and TAKE NOTES! You'll be learning a lot about next steps, company culture, and opportunities, and you will not be able to take advantage of this information if you don't record it.
7. This may go without saying, but dress appropriately! Dressing for success is so real—think about what you'd wear to an interview. Photos have been attached to this post to help get you inspired!
8. Network while you're waiting in line. While you're in line, network with your fellow Patriots! Odds are, you'll have similar interests, and you never know who might be able to help you with your job search!
9. After the event, be sure to follow up with whoever you speak with. Send a thank-you note with a recap on your position.
10. TAKE ACTION! For the companies you're interested in and talked to, definitely follow the recruiter’s instructions about applying for a position. Submit or email your résumé as soon as possible that way you're still fresh in the recruiter's mind. If there isn't a position available for you at the moment, stay in contact with your recruiter.
Good luck, everyone! We hope you found this article helpful. 🤗

Panhellenic Statement on Release of MasonLife Student:
This past weekend, it was brought to the Panhellenic Executive Council’s attention that a student in the MasonLife program was released from our Formal Panhellenic Recruitment process. Over the past year, we have placed an emphasis on ensuring that George Mason’s values of diversity and inclusion are a priority for our Panhellenic community. During the spring 2017 semester, our council worked with George Mason University to gain a better understanding of the term “matriculated student," which allowed our recruitment process us to be more inclusive of individuals at our institution. This new interpretation allowed the Panhellenic Council to open our recruitment to all George Mason students who identify as female, including those enrolled in the MasonLIFE program.
Panhellenic’s Formal Recruitment is a mutual selection process, and as the overseeing council we manage the process and enforce policies that have been decided on and approved by our member organizations. However, we do not possess the ability to dictate our chapters’ membership or the process of selecting new members. As a council that promotes inclusivity, we recognize that people have been harmed by the decisions of our members, and we are committed to engaging all communities in dialogue on these issues to do better in the future.
