Dissemination of research is crucial to the advancement of health care and nursing practice, but Tara Altay, a PhD student in George Mason’s School of Nursing, noticed that research is becoming increasingly inaccessible to her peers. Unwilling to see this trend persist, Altay, the George Mason University Graduate Nursing Organization, and George Mason Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health organized a free student-led conference for nursing students and professionals across the D.C.-area. The conference featured students, practitioners, and an opportunity to strengthen connection in the nursing community.

Advocacy efforts of George Mason College of Public Health faculty and students are ever-present in the nation's capital. Assistant professor in the Department of Social Work Li-Mei Chen and Health Services Research PhD student Linda Hayes Bennett met with legislative staff as a part of the annual Gerontological Society of America Capitol Hill Advocacy Day to promote sustainable investment in programs that support older adults. Chen and Bennett, alongside fellow gerontology scholars, outlined the impacts federal budget cuts will have on research, employment rates, and the overall health of older adults.
