The Patriot Debate Institute strives to offer the most individual attention of any debate camp. Low student-to-faculty ratios and an extremely active faculty allow us to meet the individual needs of every debater. We are proud of our ability to tailor our instruction to the needs to individual participants once assessments are done; tailored instruction is indeed a unique institute approach. The camp has a focus on debate as an educational & communicative activity which offers a one of a kind learning experience.
GMU lab leaders are tearing it up again this weekend. Young Kwon & Kyle Lastovica are debating at the University of Kentucky, they just won their doubles round and are in octos now. At the James Madison tournament, lab leaders, Isaac Brown & Austin Oliver were in quarters, Colin Dailey & Luke Melton and Erica Jalbuena (with partner Michelle Thomas) were in octos in open. In JV, Nouran Ghanem (with partner Rich Kaye) were in semis. Be sure to wish your lab leaders congratulations!

Your Patriot Debate Institute lab leaders have started their debate season on a high note...the team of Isaac Brown & Austin Oliver have just cleared to the double-octofinal round of the UMKC tournament! Their elimination round is tomorrow morning.
Both GMU teams are 2-1 at UMKC!
GMU has had a strong start to the 2014-2015 season, both teams pick up round 1! The teams of Isaac Brown/Austin Oliver & Michelle Thomas/Erica Jalbuena began their season at UMKC this morning.

Today is the final full day of the 2014 GMU Patriot Debate Institute. Campers will get to engage in a practice tournament with 3 judges in each round, all day which will afford them lots of feedback on their final performance.

Week 3 is underway at the GMU Patriot Debate Institute! This afternoon we watched the Great Debaters and used the movie as an opportunity to discuss changes in debate over time, social contexts surrounding debate topics, important trends for learning within debate and the real world impact debate has on participants. It was a fun & invigorating afternoon!
Today Isaiah Bolden, a Hollidings Fellow, with the NOAA came to speak with us about climate science.
Mr. Fred Gorell, a public affairs officer at NOAA Office of Ocean exploration and Research, visited the institute to discuss about the ocean environment, resources, and technologies!

After a morning of discussing trends in philosophy & rhetorical criticism, campers are spending the next 2 hours with infamous Dr. Wayne Froman to discuss his work concerning Martin Heidegger.

Happening right now at the GMU Patriot Debate Institute, an interesting discussion with Johanna K. Bockman, Associate Professor of Economic Sociology at GMU and a popular debate author. She is teaching about neoliberal economic system and its pros and cons.
Happening this afternoon at the GMU Patriot Debate Institute, an energetic discussion with environmental philosopher, Dr. Mark Sagoff. He is speaking with us about biodiversity and the methods applied to cost-benefit analysis when making policy decisions about environmental philosophy.
The Patriot Debate Institute is happy to be speaking with Dr. Peggy Maddox. Dr. Maddox is speaking to our group about the Affordable Care Act, she is the department chair of the Department of Health Administration & Policy at GMU and is recognized by Modern Healthcare among the Top Health Administration Faculty in the US and is a member of the Governor's Virginia Health Reform Implementation commission.
This morning, we have our first set of electives. Students are are able to choose which lecture interests them and attend the one of their choice. This morning's lecture choices are: Terrorism with Austin Oliver/Kristie Cramer, Hegemony with Kyle Lastovica/Young Kwon, and Weapons with Jackie Poapst/Hannah Call.
