Hey everyone it is your GOGA President Alexa here! I hope everyone is doing well in these times of uncertainty. I find a huge stress reliever of mine is growing seedlings for the garden at home❤️. Right here we have calendula, straw flower, and nasturtiums. I cannot wait to get these into the Potomac Heights garden when we can all get back on campus 🌷💐🌺 #georgemasonuniversity #flowers #seedlings #nasturtium #calendula #strawflowers #organicgardening

Confused about companion planting for your garden? Have no fear! This guide is simple and clear.

LOOK | COMPANION PLANTING GUIDE

Starting your garden? You might want to know which plants go best together and which ones don't.

Companion planting exists to benefit certain plants by giving them pest control, naturally without the need to use chemicals, and in some cases they can give a higher crop yield. This can also be physical in nature as some tall-growing, sun-loving plants may share space with lower-growing, shade-tolerant species, resulting in better harvest.

However, there are some plants that slow down each other. These are called antagonistic plants and therefore must not be planted in close proximity to each other. Potatoes hate Tomatoes is one example.

Want to know more? Check this simple guide.

One of my favorite things about early spring gardening is harvesting all the bok choy that grows abundantly in the Potomac Heights Organic Garden! 🥬 Bok choy is in the brassica family closely related to cabbage. This leafy green is rich many vitamins and nutrients. Some of my favorite benefits are it’s aid in preventing cancer and supporting healthy bones 🦴 ! #bokchoy #organicgardening #sustainableagriculture #brassica #healthyfood

Our last little harvest of the year 😢. It is sad, but we honestly had such a great turn out this year! So many pumpkins, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and watermelons just to name a few. Right now we are working on winterizing the garden so our winter crops can stay protected from the harsh Virginia cold. If you are interested in volunteering we are still hosting shifts !
