GMU Sigma Psi Zeta: I Support the Girls- Chubby Bunny Milestone I

Happy Monday!
Here is the Chubby Bunny video for our I Support the Girls fundraiser milestone ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘€
https://youtu.be/zJYGtznXwlY

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser for I Support the Girls. During these difficult times, we see the rise in domestic violence as people are potentially stuck in quarantine with their abusers.

An organization like I Support the Girls allows for homes and groups that help womxn acquire essential products such as bras and feminine hygiene products in times of need.

Thank you so much for everyone's compassion throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we were able to raise $170! Keep a look out for our 2nd milestone video!

Thank you for donating to our fundraiser! Here is Milestone I! https://mason.crowdchange.co/13029 We will be doing milestones once we reach certain amounts: ...

Kicking off #ACTIVISM week in collaboration with George Mason University-Sigma Psi Zeta, Alpha Nu Charter

โœจ Amanda Nguyen - Vietnamese American Civil Rights Activist and Founder of Rise โœจ

Amanda Nguyen is a Vietnamese American civil rights activist, social entrepreneur, and the CEO and founder of Rise; a non-profit civil rights organization aimed to protect the rights of sexual assault survivors.

After facing a her own experience of sexual assault her senior year at Harvard, she found that the criminal justice system was flawed and did not protect the rights of sexual assault survivors. Rather than accepting injustice, she chose to rewrite the law. She founded Rise and helped draft the first Sexual Assault Survivorsโ€™ Bill of Rights that unanimously passed legislation in 2016. She aims to pass the bill in all 50 states as well as on a national level.

In 2019, Amanda Nguyen was named a 2019 Nobel Peace prize nominee for her activism.

GMU Asian Pacific American Coalition

Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Mason!

The theme for APAHM 2020 is "As I Am" which uplifts the individuals who lead and make up our community, as well as the many intersections of their identities. Among the many challenges within the Asian and Pacific Islander American communities, the myth of a monolithic community and lack of support or acknowledgement for its leaders hold importance. This APAHM, our community has chosen to celebrate the diversity of our identities and empower our leaders: past, present, and future!

In 1978, Congress passed a Congressional Resolution for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans to be celebrated during the first week in May. It was the anniversary of the first wave of Japanese immigrants to the U.S. and the completion of the transcontinental railroad, predominantly built by Chinese Americans. In 1992, the celebration was extended through the entire month of May. Here at GMU, we celebrate APAHM in the month of April to give the Mason community a chance to experience what our AAPI leaders have to offer before the end of the school year.

The return of our series โ€”ONE APAC Retreat! This Fall, our theme is ROOTS as we explore our rich AAPI history and complex identities.
AAPI is a growing group on campus, each year we welcome more and more AAPI folks to not only join our organizations but become leaders in our community. However, with the lack of AAPI representation in educational curricula, most of our community members never had opportunities to learn about AAPI identity, history, and issues. As we explore our collective roots as Asian American and Pacific Islanders though history and issues, may we also discover what keeps us rooted in our identities and community.
Our registration link is available below! If you are interested please take the time to complete the form by (date)! FOOD IS PROVIDED (Shock emoji) stay tuned for our next post to find out from who ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Girlfriend charged with involuntary manslaughter in Boston College student suicide

A tragic reminder that not all victims of intimate partner violence are womxn, nor are perpetrators limited to specific genders.

If you notice that your friend or loved one is distancing themselves from everyone around them while in a relationship, check up on them. Know that abuse occurs in a cycle, recognize the signs and support those around you.

Domestic violence does not end with domestic violence month.

The girlfriend of a Boston College student who died by suicide in May repeatedly texted him to do so during their relationship, Massachusetts prosecutors said in announcing involuntary manslaughter charges against her.

[Text]
Observed every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month recognizes and serves as a way to increase awareness about Domestic Violence across the United States.
What is it? It is a pattern of abusive behaviors - whether physical, sexual, or emotional, that may be used by an intimate partner to exert power and control in a relationship. This behavior can frighten, manipulate, or injure their partner. ANYONE can be affected by Domestic Violence, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Why does GMU Sigma Psi Zeta care? Our philanthropy is to Combat the Violence Against Womxn. We strive not only to advocate and uplift all womxn and survivors, but to spread awareness to our college campus and communities.

Thank you for coming out to MGC showcase this year! And shout out to GMU Pi Delta Psi for lighting up the stage with us!

Come out to the 9th Annual Immigration Monologues to be empowered, inspired, and have voices be heard.

#IamMore #ImmigrationMonologues #IM2019 #UnitedVoices #EmpoweredIdentities

๐Ÿ“ฃ There are 12.3 million Asian American and Pacific Islander immigrants in the US ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Despite this large number, AAPIโ€™s are often left out of the larger immigration conversation and many assumptions are made about our community. With this yearโ€™s Immigration Monologues theme being โ€œUnited Voices, Empowered Identitiesโ€, GMU APAC wants to make sure that we include AAPI voices in immigrant narratives and that we empower our many identities by showing how we are more than our stereotypes.

๐Ÿ“Œ Learn something new about the AAPI community and immigration in the infographics below. Wanna do more? Share this information and educate your networks.

๐Ÿ“Œ Join us at 9th Annual Immigration Monologues and RSVP on Eventbrite.

๐Ÿ“Œ Join the conversation. Share your immigration story and empower your identities with #IamMore in the comments OR by sharing this post.

See you at Immigration Monologues on October 12!
