Methodist University Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program

Methodist University Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program The Methodist University Occupational Therapy Program began August 2018. We accept admission applications on OTCAS.org from July to January. Please visit our website for more details! http://www.methodist.edu/academics/programs/otd

As the FIRST entry-level OTD program in the state of North Carolina, the Methodist University Doctor of Occupational Therapy program will be a leader in occupational therapy education for the development of diverse and critically-thinking practitioners. The program will generate compassionate and ethical leaders who will serve their communities and the profession as a bridge between biomedical and sociocultural health through the delivery of authentic, evidence-based use of daily life activities to improve health. Through their practice, our graduates will engage, enrich, and empower the lives and communities they serve.

Mission: The mission of the MU OTD program is to cultivate exceptional clinicians who become professional leaders that are committed to advancing human health and wellness through participation in everyday life activities. Graduates will think critically through the use of contemporary evidence-based practice and demonstrate the distinct value of authentic occupational therapy practices through their body of knowledge, specialized skills, and client-centered care.

Are you planning to do Fieldwork in a pediatric setting?
Join the NCOTA Children and Youth SIS for this virtual discussion!

Are you an OT practitioner working with children and youth in your practice setting? Join us for an open discussion about how you and others are serving your clients during the pandemic, to discuss precautions that your workplace has put into practice, and to look at AOTA’s Decision Guides for seeing patients. We hope to both learn from each other and see what OT practitioners are implementing across the state. Attached are AOTA’s Decision Guides for different settings you may be serving your clients in:

Face masks in school likely to be mandatory, so it is time kids get used to them now: officials

This is an important topic and occupational therapy can offer strategies for a successful, healthy return to school and work environments. #ThisisOT #MUOTD #wearamask

FUN FACT: The OT (Lauren Stone) quoted in this article is a former student of Dr. Gronski's!

Face coverings likely will become part of the required dress code for students at schools in the fall, and parents might want to start getting their children accustomed to wearing them now, officials said.

Our initial reaction to the heightened awareness of ongoing racial injustice and trauma was to release a Justice and Anti-Racism statement. In our haste to craft the statement, we realized that our words would be superficial and inadvertently offensive to OT practitioners and students across the state who are black or brown. We recognize that the NCOTA Board is largely composed of white practitioners, and any words that we say without fully, openly, and sincerely consulting with our fellow practitioners of color would be nothing more than hopeful at best.
