In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Today we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to their community. Dear Campus Community,

We hope that you will join the University Community for the 12th annual Take Back the Night this Wednesday (April 24th) in the Hammond Main Lounge, at 7p.m.!

For over a decade, the FSU community has come together at this event to promote sexual violence awareness and communicate a message not only of intolerance for any and all acts of violence, but also of compassion and support for those who have been impacted by such violence. The event gives the opportunity for members of our community to share their stories in a supportive space, access resources, and demonstrate FSU's continued commitment to stand against sexual violence in our community and beyond.

Congratulations to FSUPD’s Dispatcher Emily Ramos on graduating the Reserve/Intermittent Police Academy. Disp Ramos has been a great addition to the department, providing top notch service and going the extra mile whenever possible. Her knowledge as a Fitchburg State University Alumni (class of 2018), and military experience has proven invaluable in her role as first point of contact for emergency calls. We wish her continued success in both her chosen profession and her role with the department.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The week of April 14-20, 2019, is congressionally designated as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. During this annual event, we recognize the dedication, commitment, and professionalism that our communication specialist also known as dispatchers demonstrate each and every day on the job.

We would like to thank the dedicated professionals of all public safety agencies and especially the dispatchers of the Fitchburg State University Police Department for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. These men and women are often the first people the community will contact in a time of crisis and are essential to ensure a prompt and proper response from police, fire and medical services.

At a university, these men and women have an additional role of helping students contact university services such as housing, maintenance, and counselling services after hours. While monitoring over 160 various cameras on campus, receiving calls from one of the over 60 call boxes on campus, monitoring Rave Guardian and keeping an awareness for situations involving in surrounding jurisdictions, these men and women are truly the hub of information for law enforcement in the field and the community at large.
