Don't miss this FREE learning opportunity.

Digital humanists often utilize digital collections and archives in their research. Digital humanists also often create or curate digital collections, archives, and exhibits. We sometimes use these terms interchangeably, yet there are distinctions between these three concepts, as well as relationships between these three concepts that we should understand as we grow our fluency in the vocabulary of digital humanities, collaborate with other digital humanists, and make decisions about platforms and digital projects.

❗️No prior experience/familiarity with digital tools or platforms is required.❗️This workshop is offered FULLY ONLINE ONLY.

Virtual Seating is limited, so REGISTER TODAY to reserve your spot in this FREE series. https://csufdigital.org/workshops/spring-certificate-series/

📿Researching families and communities of African American descent can present unique challenges due to the history of slavery in the United States. This introductory overview presentation discusses key record collections for tracing African American ancestry, challenges and strategies for researching enslaved families, and present-day opportunities that can help overcome some of these obstacles. Through two case studies we will explore these methods and sources in the context of a formerly enslaved family and a 20th century immigrant family. However these lessons and record collections will benefit family historians doing any type of U.S. research.

Thurs 2/22/2024 from 4-6PM
Online via Zoom
Presentation: 4-5:30PM
Extended Q&A: 5:30-6PM
This event is FREE and open to the public. However pre-registration is required.
Please direct any questions to Colleen Robledo Greene at [email protected].

Colleen Robledo Green teaches genealogy research with a heavy critical thinking approach. This presentation delves into concepts and issues pertaining to information, digital, and archival literacies.

A recording of the presentation can be made available to CSUF faculty, staff, and students via Canvas. If you are a CSUF professor who wants to integrate this presentation into your course, please contact Colleen.

This program is co-hosted by the Pollak Library and CSUF DEFCon.

Digital storytelling platform and data visualization tool Google Earth Web just rolled out a major redesign of the content editor interface. Some handy features like the ability to easily pull in rich media linked data such as Wikipedia articles, search for and pull in YouTube videos or images stored in your own Google Drive have gone away. But the new interface does provide a more streamlined content editing workflow now.

This has been a popular digital storytelling platform for some of our CSUF classes. So watch for updates about an upcoming workshop by CSUF Digital Scholarship Librarian Colleen Robledo Greene covering the new interface and features. Reach out to her directly if you need help sooner.
