The Humanities, Fine & Performing Arts Department at Nassau Community College kicks off its departmental speaker series with "Music Discovered and Recovered," an exploration of the music and stories of composers persecuted by the N**i regime.

Join pianist Dr. Jeanne Golan for a compelling presentation on these remarkable artists and their newly discovered and recovered musical treasures. Whether they were forced into exile, imprisoned, or murdered, these composers left behind extraordinary compositions that folded in every conceivable musical influence from avant-gardism and romanticism to folk, cabaret and jazz. Dr. Golan will talk about some of the composers she's found and perform selections of their work.

All members of the NCC community are invited to attend.

Thank you to everyone who joined a wonderful celebration of Italian-American culture, history and cinema at NCC last week.

NCC Chief Administrative Officer Maria Conzatti opened the program, highlighting how she is the daughter of an Italian immigrant. The program featured filmmaker and film historian (and former NCC student) Greg Blank, who took us behind the scenes of The Godfather and explored the film’s cultural and cinematic legacy through his presentation, “Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli.” Guests also enjoyed a Q&A, as well as lunch, coffee, and biscotti.

The event was presented by the NCC Italian American Studies Association and the Italian American Heritage Day Committee, with support from the NCC Library Exhibit Committee.

A great day celebrating Italian heritage, culture and one of the most iconic films in American cinema!
