Ascension Parish,

After careful consideration, I have accepted a job at the St. Gabriel Sugar Research Station starting this April. I cannot thank you enough for welcoming me and taking the time to get to know me. It has been a true pleasure serving this parish. The experiences I have gained here have been invaluable and have prepared me well for the next step in my career. I am grateful for the support, mentorship, and collaboration I have received during my time in this position.

All the best,
Schyler Thibodeaux

Hummingbirds typically start migrating through Louisiana this month. You can entice them to your yard with the proper nourishment. A sugar syrup dispensed from the feeder supplements the birds’ natural diet of nectar and insects with an unlimited amount of calories to fuel their rapid metabolism. The best formula for feeders should approximate natural nectar. A good, simple formula can be made at home by dissolving 1 part of cane sugar in 4 parts of boiling water. Allow the sugar syrup to cool before filling feeders.

Place feeders high enough so that domestic cats cannot attack the birds while they are feeding, and place them near windows for maximum viewing pleasure. Feeders are most effective when located within view of flowers that attract hummingbirds.
