Meet Elizabeth, a Master of Social Work student whose pride in being Mexican-American is rooted in family, culture, and resilience.

Raised in Wisconsin, Elizabeth credits her parents for helping her stay connected to her heritage through family traditions, visits to their hometowns in Mexico, and relationships with relatives across borders. Their example taught her the values of hard work, compassion, and perseverance.

Elizabeth's story is a reminder that culture is something to celebrate, preserve, and share with future generations. By embracing her identity and honoring the sacrifices of those who came before her, she continues to carry her heritage forward with pride.

Meet Alex, a Political Science and Social Work student who embraces the strength found in a complex and beautiful identity.

Growing up mixed in a small town, Alex often felt caught between worlds. Through those experiences, Alex learned an important truth: there is no single way to be Hispanic/Latinx. Heritage is not defined by language, appearance, or how others see us. It is defined by the stories, values, and communities that shape who we are.

"We are enough no matter our skin tones, languages, or experiences."

Proud of family, culture, and community, Alex draws strength from the resilience of those who came before and remains committed to celebrating and uplifting Hispanic/Latinx heritage.
