Prof. Sophie Adamson represented at the national Lilly teaching conference on “AI in Higher Education” in Austin, TX on May 19, presenting her shift from the traditional paper to a student‑led research discussion. The project, centered on students’ persuasive arguments and active peer conversation, reduces the misuse of AI and builds on the engaged learning that is always at the heart of her teaching.

Ella says, “What I appreciated about my French studies at Elon was the chance to practice a language and learn about a culture I have always adored, all while surrounded by the kindest students and faculty! My future plans include pursuing a Master of Arts in Higher Education at Elon as a graduate apprentice in the Center for Leadership! I’m also taking my dream vacation to London and Paris this summer, where I’ll get some hands-on French practice!”

Catherine says, “My French classes have been so important to me, and some of my favorites that I’ve taken at Elon. I met several of my closest friends through French classes and grew so much as I was pushed to step outside my comfort zone. My decision to take French classes at Elon started as a “just for fun” passion project, but turned into something so meaningful to me. Elon’s French department is the BEST!
I just accepted a job as a 4th-grade teacher for the next school year! I hope to use my background with French to bring a global perspective to my classroom, and maybe one day I’ll have the opportunity to communicate with a French-speaking family!”

Emily says, “Minoring in French has been one of the best decisions I’ve made at Elon! The classes and professors built my confidence in the language, and they challenged me to think more critically about French culture. This fall, I’m heading to the University of Edinburgh for a Master’s in Food Security, with a dream of working in a francophone country where I can combine my love of French with my passion for Public Health!”

Julia says, “My studies in French began my freshman J-term at Elon. Despite the crash-course-style foundation I had, the French faculty welcomed me with open arms and taught me that growth feels better than perfection. I don’t know where I would be without them, but I am excited to keep in touch as I move forward in this next chapter of life. After graduation, I will be starting a full-time job at Collins Aerospace as a Senior Analyst in Global Trade Licensing.”

Lilia says, “French classes were my favorite at Elon from the beginning. I learned so much from the students and professors. I am grateful to the French professors who were passionate about their teaching, which helped me stay engaged. The community of French learners was my safe space. Future plans: I hope to get into the TAPIF program this fall and eventually move to France permanently. My goal is to work with non-profits helping people in Southern France.”

Lila says, “The French studies at Elon have been so amazing. I have been able to get personal attention from the professor, and I have met some of my best friends through the classes. I am so glad to have been a part of this community. I am going to be a high school science teacher in Charlotte for the next two years, then I will be applying to medical school. I am excited to use my French to help students in the classroom.”
