Let’s pause the rumors and get into the facts.

Only current residents received the housing email because the policy requires that you must presently live in on-campus housing (including apartments) to qualify. For that reason, the message was sent specifically to that group.

If you took a semester off, left University housing for any reason, or are a transfer student, you do not qualify under this policy.

Additionally, having OARS accommodations does not automatically guarantee housing or specific housing accommodations. You must currently reside in housing and have approved OARS accommodations to be eligible to complete a 2026–27 housing application. Please note that all placements are subject to availability.

Your classification is determined by credit hours. If you entered as a freshman with enough credits to be classified as a sophomore, then you are considered a sophomore. Credit hours are the deciding factor.

Now — if you’re feeling anxious about possibly not securing on-campus housing, don’t panic. Prepare.

We’re hosting Adulting Workshops and Off-Campus Apartment Fairs to help you navigate the off-campus process with confidence. You’ll connect with Financial Aid representatives and local apartment leasing professionals who can walk you through how financial aid may potentially be used toward apartment expenses, leasing timelines, budgeting, and next steps.

Stress less. Ask questions. Show up informed. We’ve got resources — use them.
