Wrapping up the week on a Friday with a look at how CHHS connects to the community, including examples of community leaders coming to visit our students directly — It's CHHS Real Learning for Real Life!

Thank you to Amanda Jimenez with Pitt County Public Health for overseeing an interactive, critical thinking POD edition emergency preparedness exercise with health education and promotion students. Also, we're grateful for alums Dominique Smith and Alexis Strickland with Pitt County Department of Social Services who visited a human development and family science class for important discussion and Q&A opportunities about parenting and the role of social workers in child welfare, and serving our community.

Proud, passionate, collaborating, thriving — together.

PreK–12 teachers and faculty members met in the Teaching Resources Center for their first in-person session as the Computer Science Integration Professional Learning Community. It was a great start for the group, with a lot of enjoyment, collaborating, exchanging of ideas and quality conversations about computer science in education. Thanks to Joyner Library for hosting and leadership of the CS4All@ECU team Drs. Ruby Yeh, Kristen Gregory, Ken Luterbach and Crisianee Berry, and liaison Beth Madigan.

FOR THE LEADERS:
Congratulations William Soles for representing and CHHS on the national level!

Soles, a health services management major, was honored this week in San Antonio for earning a national HOSA scholarship in support of academic achievement and future healthcare leaders. Soles was recognized for this award during the American Health Information Management Association 2026 conference.

Shea O’Connell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in exercise physiology last year and was recently announced as one of the recipients of the most prestigious medical scholarship. Congratulations Shea and the Class of 2030 Brody Scholars!

Three incoming MD students earn the most prestigious medical scholarship to attend the Brody School of Medicine.

Alongside Brody School of Medicine, celebrating that Clinical Laboratory Sciences program will be improving thanks to additional support from the Golden LEAF Foundation! 🎉🔬

Funds will help with expanding medical education and healthcare workforce training, technology needs and simulation equipment, and for equipment for clinical and laboratory skills instruction. Clinical Laboratory Sciences graduates will increase from 16 to 24 annually.

Public health major Keke Jenkins is interning at PiCASO Inc. (Pitt County AIDS Service Organization) and presented in class alongside December '25 public health graduate Madison Freeman, PiCASO, Inc. ITTS outreach coordinator. They led discussions about the services PiCASO Inc. provides and on HIV awareness and prevention.
