Soror Lance Bottoms is a Spring 1990 initiate of the Beta Alpha Chapter at Florida A&M University and always leads with purpose and impact.

As the 60th Mayor of Atlanta, she guided the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery while advancing her vision of One Atlanta—creating greater equity, opportunity, and investment in affordable housing for residents across the city.

Her distinguished career also includes becoming the first Atlanta mayor to serve in all three branches of city government: Judge, City Council member, and Mayor. She later served as Senior Advisor to President Joe Biden, leading the White House Office of Public Engagement and strengthening connections with communities nationwide.

A nationally recognized civil rights leader and recipient of the Distinguished Civil Rights Advocate Award, Soror Keisha Lance Bottoms exemplifies the power of courageous leadership and service. Her new book, The Rough Side of the Mountain, was the region’s July 1937 Literature Circle selection and is a best seller!

As we observe July 4th, we celebrate the ideals of freedom while recognizing that the journey toward liberty and justice has not been the same for everyone.

We understand that freedom has been hard fought, hard won, and continues to require our voices, our service, and our commitment to creating lasting change. We honor those who challenged injustice, opened doors for future generations, and reminded us that the promise of America is strongest when it includes us all. Today, we celebrate our nation's progress, reflect on the work that remains, and reaffirm our commitment to advancing equity, opportunity, and justice in the communities we serve.

Today, we honor and celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, husbands, mentors, godfathers, uncles, and father figures whose love, leadership, wisdom, and sacrifice help shape our families and communities.

We pay tribute to the strong Black men who lead with integrity, nurture with compassion, protect with courage, and leave lasting legacies for generations to come. We also pause to remember and honor those fathers and father figures who are no longer with us. Though absent in presence, their lessons, love, and impact continue to live on in the lives they touched. 🙏🏾

To every man who shows up, stands firm, gives selflessly, and pours into others--thank you. Your legacy is woven into the families, communities, and futures you help shape each day.
