Great local place to eat!

There are newer and fancier places to eat in Gulf Shores.

But few restaurants feel more like old-school Gulf Shores than Sea N Suds.

Sea-N-Suds opened in 1975, back when Gulf Shores looked dramatically different from the resort city surrounding it today. Its early operation was associated with an old bait-shop structure on a pier.

Then came Hurricane Frederic in 1979.

The devastating storm tore across the Alabama coast and destroyed the original Sea-N-Suds.

That could have ended the story.

It didn't.

The restaurant was rebuilt, and generations of vacationers continued coming for seafood practically on top of the Gulf.

That's what makes Sea-N-Suds different from another restaurant with a beach theme.

The beach isn't the theme.

It's right outside.

For longtime Gulf Shores families, that means memories of fried shrimp, oysters, gumbo, Gulf breezes and looking out across the water while eating dinner.

Gulf Shores transformed around it.

Condos rose.

Hurricanes came.

Tourism exploded.

Property became enormously valuable.

Yet Sea-N-Suds remained one of those names people kept associating with a Gulf Shores vacation.

Nearly everything on a coastline eventually changes.

Sometimes the real accomplishment is simply surviving long enough to become part of people's memories.
