Blessed Feast of St. Mary, the Holy Theotokos.

Today, on the 16th of Mesore, August 22, the Coptic Orthodox Church joyfully commemorates the revealing of the assumption of the body of our pure Lady, St. Mary, into heaven.

Her life remains a beautiful witness of humility, obedience, faith, and complete surrender to God. As we celebrate this blessed feast, we ask for her intercessions before her beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, that He may strengthen us in the true faith and grant us the forgiveness of our sins.

Hail to the advocate of our souls; you are indeed the pride of our race.

Through the intercessions of the Theotokos St. Mary, O Lord, grant us the forgiveness of our sins.

Blessed Feast to everyone. 🙏

Day 16/16 — Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos

As we close the blessed Fast of St. Mary, we contemplate a beautiful word from St. Augustine: before St. Mary bore Christ in her body, she first bore Him in her heart through faith, obedience, and holy contemplation. She listened to the Word, received Him with trust, and kept all things in her heart.

St. Mary teaches us that true motherhood in the Spirit begins with inward faithfulness. She is Theotokos not only because she gave birth to the Word incarnate, but also because she received Him with a heart wholly surrendered to God.

May this final day remind us to imitate her quiet obedience, her purity of heart, and her deep love for Christ. Through her prayers, may we also bear Christ within us and become living witnesses of His grace.

O Holy Theotokos, intercede for us before your beloved Son.

Today, as we continue the blessed Fast of St. Mary, the Church celebrates the glorious Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On Mount Tabor, the disciples were given a glimpse of His divine glory, and the Father’s voice was heard:

“This is My Son, My Chosen; listen to Him!” — Luke 9:35

May the light of Christ renew our hearts, strengthen our faith, and teach us to listen more deeply to His voice.

The blessing of the glorious Feast of the Transfiguration and the fast of our Holy Theotokos St. Mary be with us all. Amen. 🙏

Day 13/16 | Blessed Fast of THE HOLY THEOTOKOS ✨

“Hail to you, O Mary Theotokos, through whom the Light has shone upon those who were sitting in darkness and the shadow of death.”

Through St. Mary, the Holy Theotokos, the world received the True Light—Our Lord Jesus Christ, who came to illuminate every heart and scatter the darkness of sin and death.

The prophets spoke of Him.
The angels proclaimed Him.
And through the obedience of the Virgin, the Light entered the world.

During this blessed fast, may we ask the Holy Theotokos to intercede for us, that the light of Christ may shine within us and guide every step of our lives.

“The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.”

Day 12/16 — Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos

“For you gave birth to the Word,
without the seed of man;
and your virginity was not corrupted.

Wherefore we glorify you,
as the Mother of God;
ask your Son to forgive us.”

In St. Mary, we behold the wonder of the Incarnation: the eternal Word of God took flesh from her, while her virginity remained incorrupt. Through her obedience and purity, she became truly Theotokos — the Mother of God.

May her prayers and intercessions be with us throughout this blessed fast.

Day 10/16 — Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos. ✨

“You became our intercessor before God our Savior, who was incarnate from you for our salvation.”

Hail to you, O full of grace.

Hail to you who have given birth to Christ.

As we continue the Fast of St. Mary, may we learn from her humility, obedience, and unwavering faith, and may her prayers continually guide our hearts toward her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Day 9/16 — Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos

Today we reflect on the wondrous mystery of the Incarnation through the words of St. Gregory of Nazianzus. The eternal Word of God, the Light of Light and Source of Life, humbled Himself and took our humanity from St. Mary the Virgin.

Through her, the One who cannot be contained was contained for our salvation. He took what is ours so that we might receive what is His. He assumed our flesh, restored His image in us, conquered corruption, and opened for us the riches of His divine life.

O wondrous mystery: God became Man for our salvation.

Day 8/16 | Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos ✨

Today we remember the Annunciation to St. Joachim concerning the birth of St. Mary, the Holy Theotokos.

St. Joachim and St. Anna carried the sorrow of many years without a child, yet they did not abandon prayer. With faith, they entrusted their longing to God and vowed that the child He might grant them would be dedicated to Him.

In His perfect time, God heard their prayer. The Archangel Gabriel brought the joyful announcement that they would receive a child through whom God’s saving work would unfold.

And so St. Anna conceived and gave birth to St. Mary, the pure Virgin and Holy Theotokos.

Their story reminds us that faithful prayer is never wasted. What may seem like silence can become the place where God prepares a blessing greater than we imagined.

May the prayers of St. Joachim, St. Anna, and St. Mary the Holy Theotokos be with us, and may this blessed fast draw our hearts closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ. 🙏

Day 6/16 | Blessed Fast of the Holy Theotokos

Why does the Church confess St. Mary as Theotokos — the Mother of God?

Because this title is not only about St. Mary; it safeguards the Church’s confession of Who Jesus Christ is.

St. Gregory of Nazianzus wrote with striking clarity:

“If anyone does not accept Holy Mary as Theotokos, he is cut off from deity.”

The One born of St. Mary is not one person joined later to God. He is the eternal Word of God who truly became man. The Son of God and the Son of St. Mary are one and the same Person—Our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we call St. Mary Theotokos, we proclaim the mystery of the Incarnation: God the Word truly took our humanity from her and dwelt among us.

During this blessed fast, may we contemplate not only the honor of the Theotokos, but the great mystery to which her motherhood points:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” — John 1:14
