Get to know more about Dr. Smith's personal experience and passion for Christian education in this new interview:

"What New Aberdeen is building, then, isn't a novelty. It's a restoration. Smith describes the college's mission not as training students for a particular skill set that may be obsolete in a decade, but as developing character, virtue, and wisdom — the durable things, the things that hold under pressure."

Ryan Smith, President of New Aberdeen College, shares how faith shaped a career-defining crisis and why there should be no daylight between belief and work.

THE QUADRIVIUM IS VITAL TO A VIRTUOUS EDUCATION

According to Andrew Selby, "...the liberal arts tradition generally endorses teaching the mathematical arts at the same time as the verbal arts and rates education in the quadrivium as highly as that of the trivium. Instead of thinking of the quadrivium as primarily useful, the liberal arts tradition thinks of study of the mathematical arts as excellent mental training and even as a road to experience Beauty and God Himself."

Math and science: unpleasant hoops through which we must jump or a ticket to the upper middle class? Contemporary American education presupposes mathematics and science have as their purpose utility. They can get you through school and maybe even make you comfortably wealthy. However, math and scien...

DR. JOSHUA HERRING APPOINTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We welcome Dr. Joshua Herring to the Board of Directors effective October 1. Dr. Herring is a veteran classical education professor and author of Sons of Adam, Daughters of Eve: C.S. Lewis's Images of Gender. He recently founded the Logres Institute and serves as the Curriculum Program Manager for the Rafiki Foundation. He and his wife Jennifer live in Raleigh, where they attend Christ the King Presbyterian Church (PCA).

Dr. Herring's extensive leadership in Classical Christian Education makes him an ideal member of New Aberdeen College's board.

Dr. Herring's passion for the type of education that New Aberdeen offers is apparent in everything that he does. He writes, "We live in a strange era for higher education. On the one hand, more and more small liberal arts colleges are closing. At the same time, bigger schools are further and further away from helping students acquire an authentic liberal education. New Aberdeen defies both of these trends. It is rooted in the Reformed tradition of Christian orthodoxy, which grounds its academic endeavors. But that Reformed tradition lays hold of liberal education and declares that it too belongs to Christ. New Aberdeen College is in the business of helping students love the Lord their God with all their mind, and in so doing become wholly devoted followers of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Welcome to the New Aberdeen community, Dr. Herring!
