With the school year now in full swing, we are reflecting on the incredible dedication of our program graduates in classrooms across the Houston area. This past May, high school English teacher and Alternative Teacher Certification program graduate Austin Gilkeson was named the recipient of the first annual Carolyn Gurklis Huff Teaching Excellence Award, which includes a generous monetary prize. Gilkeson, who teaches at Westside High School, credited our program with giving him the rigorous preparation and tools needed to lead and inspire diverse classrooms.
