Lauren Mahkovic ’27, a first-generation student, is pursuing a Program of Emphasis (POE) in geology while tailoring her studies with secondary emphases in biology and museum studies to match her interests and career goals.

“Juniata has helped me become more confident in who I am and in pursuing my goals in education,” Lauren said.

On 2/2/2026, McClain, Becker, & Leisher presented their Summer work - Heart of Appalachia Digital Storytelling associated an grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation - (https://www.juniata.edu/about/news/archive.php?action=SHOWARTICLE&id=7184)
Abstract - In January 2025, Juniata College received a Mellon Foundation Grant focusing on the use of digital storytelling to capture Appalachian stories regarding economic challenges. We will share instructional design considerations and strategies, resources, and lessons learned in creating training resources. Our media blueprint will be shared as an OER.

On 2/3/2026, Becker presented his research efforts during the Poster Sessions - 3D Printing Paraboloids
Abstract - This session will examine how 3D-printed equations in 3-space can be used as a learning tool in multivariate calculus classrooms. The process of creating manipulables for paraboloids, cones, and other surfaces will be discussed. A plan for integrating them into existing curriculum will be presented as well.
