This is exactly what we’re working toward in North Alabama.

Every year, Queen City HBCUs in Charlotte, North Carolina, hosts an annual HBCU Cookout that brings together alumni and supporters from HBCUs across the country. This year’s participating institutions include:

Events like this remind us that while we may wear different school colors, we’re all part of the rich legacy of HBCUs. They create opportunities to network, build friendships, mentor students, celebrate our traditions, and strengthen our communities.

This is the type of atmosphere we hope to cultivate through the North Alabama HBCU Coalition (NAHC). Imagine alumni from every HBCU represented across North Alabama coming together for networking events, community service projects, student outreach, and celebrations of HBCU excellence.

We’re just getting started, and your support matters. Please continue to like, follow, and share this page with fellow HBCU alumni, students, and supporters. The more people we reach, the stronger our coalition becomes and the sooner we can begin hosting events that bring our HBCU family together right here in North Alabama.

North Alabama has a rich history of HBCU pride. Huntsville is the home of Alabama A&M, Oakwood University and Drake State in Huntsville, but we've never had a unified coalition dedicated to bringing our alumni, students, supporters, and future HBCU scholars together.

Inspired by the incredible work of Queen City HBCUs (queencityhbcu.org) in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance (hbcualumniatlanta.org) in Atlanta, Georgia, the time has come to unite the HBCU community right here in North Alabama.

The North Alabama HBCU Coalition is being established to connect alumni, strengthen relationships across HBCUs, support high school students as they begin their HBCU journey, and create meaningful networking, service, and community engagement opportunities throughout our region.

Whether your HBCU is in the Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, or beyond, this coalition is for all of us. Together, we can celebrate our traditions, invest in the next generation, and demonstrate the power of the HBCU community in North Alabama.

If you’re an HBCU alumnus, parent, student, educator or supporter in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Florence, Scottsboro or any other city or town in North Alabama, we invite you to join us as we build something special for our community.

🚀 Introducing the North Alabama HBCU Coalition (NAHC)! 🎓

I’m excited to announce the launch of the North Alabama HBCU Coalition (NAHC), an effort to bring together alumni and supporters of Historically Black Colleges and Universities from across North Alabama.

The vision is simple, create opportunities for HBCU alumni to connect, network, and build lasting relationships while supporting the next generation of HBCU students.

Whether you attended Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Tuskegee, Florida A&M, Jackson State, Tennessee State, Grambling, Miles, or any other HBCU, you are welcome here.

As NAHC grows, we hope to provide opportunities for alumni to network with one another while also assisting high school students and their families as they begin their HBCU journey. From exploring colleges and navigating the admissions process to connecting with alumni who have been there before.

This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, we’ll work with alumni from across the region to shape what NAHC becomes and identify meaningful ways we can serve North Alabama together.
