We are so proud of our doctoral students 🧡💙🐾💙🧡

The Graduate & Professional School at SHSU has secured state funding to support six doctoral students through the Texas Leadership Research Scholars (TLRS) Program beginning in Fall 2026. The students selected for the program are Michelle Akinkuolie, Forrest Floyd, Raven Pigee, Christavia Willridge, Kailee Marchand and Jasmine Sierra.

Each scholar will receive a renewable scholarship of $19,884 annually for up to four years, providing valuable support as they pursue their doctoral degrees. Beyond financial assistance, TLRS scholars will participate in academic and professional development, mentoring and leadership opportunities designed to help them grow as researchers and future leaders.

Join us for the TCA Region 1 Advocacy Conference: Counselors as Change Agents on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at Sam Houston State University – The Woodlands Center!

This half-day conference will bring together counseling students, associates, professional counselors, counselor educators, school counselors, community partners, and regional leaders for a morning centered on advocacy, leadership, and community impact.

Attendees can expect student advocacy campaign presentations, advocacy-focused CEUs, a panel discussion, vendor and community partner connections, and opportunities to learn how counselors can use their voices to create meaningful change.

Fall Orientation 2026 🎓✨

We’re excited to welcome our incoming students to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling Programs for Fall 2026!
Orientation is an important first step as you begin your journey toward becoming a professional counselor. Students had the opportunity to connect with faculty, learn more about their program and expectations, explore resources and support services through a scavenger hunt, and meet fellow members of their cohort.
