INSPIRING INSTRUCTORS SUMMER SERIES

"She has been one of the best instructors who teaches chemistry concepts at a paced rate and simplifies it."

Erin Beavers is a favorite among students for a reason. She takes a notoriously difficult subject like chemistry and simplifies it so everyone can succeed, no matter their learning style. Multiple students praised Erin for her patience, her individual help, and her willingness to work around student schedules to offer extra support.

Distinguished Dragons of Excellence 2026 - Kara Franz

From Haven, Kansas, Kara Franz completed her Associate Degree in Nursing and an Associate of Science degree while attending HutchCC. Her nominator writes, “Kara has played a crucial role in keeping our food pantry running. She always has a great attitude and is willing to help with anything you ask her.”

In addition to her work with the Dragon’s Food Pantry, Kara has been named to both the Vice President’s and President’s Honor Roll. Her favorite HutchCC experience was when Student Success Center staff surprised her with a birthday party.

When reflecting about her time at HutchCC, Kara writes, “I would love to thank Debra Graber for her continued support, guidance, and compassion. She has played several roles in my college experience, and I would not have made it this far without her. I could never express my gratitude!”

FREE TOURNEY & CASH PRIZES
HutchCC Esports is hosting a FREE Mario Kart 1v1 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 1v1 tournament on Saturday, June 27 as part of South Hutchinson's Freedom Fest

Whether you’re a seasoned competitive player or just looking to play some casual games with neighbors, this event is open to all.

Event Details:

11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Check-in at noon, tournament play begins at 1:00 PM)
South Hutchinson Freedom Fest
Cost: FREE to enter (and yes, there will be prizes!)

Don't worry about packing up your switch or controllers—our HutchCC Esports team is providing the equipment and tournament setups. Just show up and be ready to have fun! The tournament will follow a double-elimination bracket, giving everyone a chance to bounce back.

Distinguished Dragons of Excellence 2026 - Camille Bryant

From McPherson, Kansas, Camille Bryant studied Business Administration while at HutchCC. Her nominator writes, “Camille Bryant has been an exceptional representative for Hutchinson Community College, excelling both in the spotlight and in the classroom. Her natural charisma is undoubtedly one of her greatest strengths; her engaging smile and high energy allow her to connect effortlessly with others, making her a natural leader in any setting.”

As a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a recipient of the Annual Fund Drive Scholarship as well as the Karla and Audrey Vonachen Memorial Scholarship, Camille demonstrated a consistent commitment to high academic performance and leadership.

Over the past year, Camille served as a social media content creator for our Marketing Department, where she truly became the face of the student experience. Some of Camille’s favorite HutchCC experiences were getting to film both Talk About It Tuesdays and Pop Quiz with Instructors. She also thoroughly enjoyed getting to interact with fellow students and instructors. Camille would like to thank all of the professors that she had and also all those she didn’t have but knew. She also writes, “I would like to thank my on-campus job bosses, Janae DeWeese and Amy Goforth. Yall were the bomb dot com!”

Distinguished Dragons of Excellence 2026 - Abby Filippi

From Wichita, Kansas, Abby Filippi completed the prerequisites for HutchCC’s Radiolgic Technology program, which she will start this coming fall semester. Her nominator writes, “Abby is a fantastic student! She always participates in class and demonstrates critical thinking skills. She often thinks beyond the necessary content to ask insightful questions that often start a deeper conversation for the entire class” before adding, “I have also witnessed Abby be a caring friend and provide support to someone who may have needed a helping hand at the time. She is simply a JOY to have in class.”

In addition to being named repeatedly to the President’s Honor Roll, Abby played in the HutchCC Symphonic Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Band. Her musical skills led to her receiving both Band and Jazz Scholarships. On top of this, she was a photographer for the Hutchinson Collegian and won first place for sports photograph at the 2026 Kansas Collegiate Media conference. Furthermore, she served as a class note taker too for Accessibility Services. One of Abby’s favorite HutchCC experiences was seeing Larry in the cafeteria every morning. When reflecting about her time at HutchCC so far, she writes, “I would like to thank Professor Eric Stambaugh for having more confidence in myself than I do.”

Distinguished Dragons of Excellence 2026 - Katie Canup

From Hutchinson, Kansas, Katie Canup studied Zoo Science while at HutchCC. Her nominator writes, “Katie was an excellent student. With her quiet resolve and clear-thinking mind she made the highest grade in my class in the fall of 2024. She was one of the first to come to my mind when nominations were requested.”

In addition to excelling in her classes as noted by her being named to the President’s and Vice President’s Honor Rolls, Katie was active on campus with her being a member of the D&D Club. Some of the favorite HutchCC experiences for this entomology enthusiast were the various school events and her many fun classes. Katie would like to thank her teachers and friends who made her look forward to coming to class every day.

Distinguished Dragons of Excellence 2026 Series - Aaron Buller

From Hutchinson, Kansas, Aaron Buller studied Music Education while at HutchCC. One of his nominators writes, “Aaron has been a leader these past two years in the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo. His work ethic is exemplary. He has been a leader in terms of helping others with music theory, performance organization, and lighthearted stage presence.” Another nominator writes, “Aaron is an excellent student with a fantastic personality. He is encouraging to fellow students, a self-starter and has been an excellent example for his peers.” In addition to these ensembles, this Schmidt Foundation Leadership Scholar was a member of the Symphonic Band and the Pep Band. Furthermore, Aaron was repeatedly named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll and was awarded the Director’s Baton Award by Professor Eric Stambaugh. He also helped with the Dillon Lecture Series. One of his favorite HutchCC experiences was participating in the University of Northern Colorado Greeley Jazz Festival. Aaron would like to thank Eric Stambaugh and Dr. Jack Cassidy for pushing him beyond what is expected.
