Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our IC alumni and friends! In celebration of the holiday, we want to start a new tradition of featuring an alumni couple every year. To kick things off, our 2021 featured IC Couple is Dave ’87 and Suzanne Lissy ’88!

Dave and Suzanne’s uplifting story began in an East Tower elevator, when Dave casually invited Suzanne to a party. Their first official date took place shortly after at The Dugout, followed by a Valentine’s Day dinner at the Tower Club.

It was during a spring break trip that Dave and Suzanne became a regular couple. Post-graduation, they both took jobs in New York City, and married in 1991. This September will mark Dave and Suzanne’s 30th wedding anniversary.

Thanks to the foundation they built together at IC, Dave and Suzanne continue to level up in life and in love.

Once the rowing seasons resume, the IC crew and sculling teams will cast off from a brand new dock at the Robert B. Tallman Rowing Center. Alumni Dan Robinson ’79, Becky Robinson ’88, Beth Greene ’00, and graduate assistant Luke LaPointe ’11, along with Ward Romer, led the work to realize the new dock, which was completed in December. “This project exemplifies the ultimate in teamwork, Bomber grit and the power of endowment and donor support," shares Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Susan Bassett '79.

Mom-ing During a Pandemic Lockdown | Ithaca College

Are you "mom-ing" during the pandemic? So are two of our professors, Jennifer Huemmer, assistant professor of strategic communication, and Lauren Britton, assistant professor of media arts, sciences, and studies.

The pair's ongoing research project, titled “Mom-ing During a Pandemic Lockdown: Navigating Identity, Labor, and Media,” recently earned the Mary Ann Yodelis Smith Award for Feminist Scholarship from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) Commission on the Status of Women 2020.

Professors recognized for COVID-related research on the competing demands of motherhood and work.

From Another Era | Ithaca College

Were you a "downtowner"? Before being moved to South Hill, Ithaca College enjoyed a rich history in the heart of downtown Ithaca. For decades, students, faculty and staff were intertwined with local residents, living in dorms and houses in the city’s center.

Now, more than 50 years after the college moved uphill, a new virtual exhibit curated by the Ithaca College Library showcases IC’s unique roots.

Take the virtual tour here 👉 https://artspaces.kunstmatrix.com/en/exhibition/2216379/the-ithaca-college-library-presents-ithaca-college-in-the-downtown-era

Downtown art exhibit highlights Ithaca College’s past.

The 1990 Ithaca College Battle of the Bands champions, playing our last gig the day before graduation on South Hill, May 1990. We should do an on-campus reunion gig...if only there was an event (Homecoming) and a venue (Emerson Suites) where that could happen....#BringBackKlyde #classof1990😎🎸🎷🎺🎹🎶🐶⭐️
Is anyone else as mad as I am about this stupid policy IC has chosen to adopt? What type of people don't even allow medical cannabis? And why are we trying to stop fully grown adults 21+ from consuming cannabis? Such an embarrassment.

It truly breaks my heart to do this, but to cut grad programs like Performance, Conducting and Composition from the school from which the college is founded? Sorry, but I now feel very disconnected from my alma mater. #savethemusicatIC 💔🎶
OK, I’ve been pretty quiet about this....until now. The decision to get rid of graduate programs in the school of music is an ABSOLUTE JOKE. Spare me the “it needs to be done to save the school” crap....here’s the REAL issue: Ithaca College 2020-2021 tuition: $65,600 Starting estimated salary for music teachers with Bachelor’s Degree but no prior teaching experience: $57,900 The School of Music was becoming more of a grad school option because of high undergrad tuition costs...how will it thrive by taking away Masters Degrees in Conducting, Performance, Composition and Suzuki Pedagogy/String Performance? When I graduated in 1990, my tuition and room and board was $14,700....with scholarships, I still had a $10,000 student loan after graduation, but my salary was more in line with my debt....I can’t fathom the student loans that kids must face in 2021, and my heart breaks for the future music educator graduates from IC who will have to take on such a ridiculous financial burden. Here’s the part that REALLY pi**es me off....Ithaca College was founded as a music school...without this, there might not be the number of famous alumni from some of the other schools at IC. How ironic that it’s called the Whalen Center for Music, as President Whalen was such an incredible champion not only for the music school, but also for when it was remodeled in the 90’s after years of being “second fiddle” (pun intended) to the other schools. I’m truly disappointed and very embarrassed for our alma mater. I’ve always been proud to say I’m an alumnus, but I don’t feel that way right now. The new Athletic Center is nice and all, but sadly you’ll be hard-pressed to find any music alums who can write a check to donate millions individually to save the programs the way that donations were made by the alumni owners of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and yes, I rooted for KC in the Super Bowl because of this....plus I’m a New York Giants fan.) My spouse is a Penn State grad, and my stepdaughter is a graduate of Christopher Newport University....until better direction and better leadership come from the President of my alma mater, my financial support will be going to these other schools, and I will not be setting foot on campus anytime soon. I will still communicate with my alumni chapter in the DC region, as I still have the utmost respect for all students and fellow alumni. It’s a sad day to be a Bomber. Sincerely, Lane Stowe ‘90 #disappointed #ithacacollege #WeArePennState #christophernewportuniversity 🤬🎶💔
It is with great sadness that I report that both my brother Chuck Barr IC'71 and my sister in law Mary Ann Sledjeski-Barr IC '70 have both passed.
