Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American, college-educated women. Alpha Kappa Alpha is comprised of more than 360,000 members in more than 1,000 graduate and undergraduate chapters globally, inclu

ding in the United States, Liberia, the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands, Germany, South Korea, Bermuda, Japan, Canada, South Africa and the Middle East. The Omicron Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered in 1984 and has graduate members from Ithaca, Corning, and Elmira. Donations are used for scholarships and other authorized expenditures.

June 9, 2026, is Dorothy Foreman Cotton Day of Peace and Reconciliation! Join us on June 3 at the Ithaca Common Council meeting at City Hall as the Mayor of Ithaca issues a proclamation honoring the life and legacy of Dorothy Cotton, renowned civil rights activist, educator, and charter member of the Omicron Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.

Dorothy Cotton dedicated her life to advancing justice, equity, and human dignity. Her legacy continues to inspire our work through community service, scholarships for local students, environmental stewardship, and initiatives that strengthen our community.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate a woman whose courage, leadership, and commitment to peace and reconciliation continue to light the way for future generations.
